This is one of the many things that HTC did that doesn't make sense. Less than 10% of the passenger cars on the market have wifi built in or even as an option. Unless this was done to "aid" GPS...oh and GPS cannot be automatically enabled, it would constitute a privacy violation. If you want GPS when you dock your phone...turn on GPS.

Android can also use WiFi, in addition to GPS, to increase the accuracy of your location, which is why they turn it on when your phone goes in the car dock. I'm not going to pretend to know how that works, but that's the reason behind turning on WiFi.

Since when did HTC start caring about privacy violations? They have no problem with leaving "privacy"exploits built in the Sense UI.

Here's some very good reasons why running a vanilla OS is highly prized. I should note, this is a new report but the issues have been around for awhile. Analysts discovered & HTC acknowledged the discovery and patched up one of these permission based exploits shortly before the Rezound was released so we were not applicable to it.
