Can The Amaze Replace a BB Bold?

Not sure if this is the right thread for this question....

Coming form a BB 9780 Bold on T-Mobile, what would be the best alternative Android with T-Mobile? Battery Life is my biggest concern having read a lot of reviews on different Androids. Also must have WiFi calling. Would the Amaze last a whole day using about 2hrs on phone calls, sending and receiving about 50 Emails and texts? If not, what's the next best option?

I had a colleague complain his Samsung SII was always drained by lunchtime.

I had the Galaxy S II.
Gave it back to them.
Couldnt stand the Samsung Touchwiz user interface.

The GSII and Amaze are to be getting an update soon with the wifi calling feature.
But they dont have it yet.

Since I got the last over the air update I have gotten noticeably better battery life on the Amaze.

I've got to say its an amazing phone too.

Never had a Blackberry, I did have a Tmobile Dash and those little buttons are excruciating.

I use a gmail account for work email and its worked very well for me.

Never get spam.

I've never tried to hook my corporate email account to an Android device
because that email is very unreliable. Gmail is way better.
If I need a document printed I forward it to my corp. email and print it at work.

I personally would suggest the Gs2 Idk about your Co worker but I get a full days use on my gs2 before I have to recharge and i'm a heavy user. i'm always texting, watching YouTube vids and always on Android central lol. wasn't too sure about touch wiz 4 before buying it but I love it now. Widgets are resizeble unlike the sense widgets which are huge and take up a whole screen. the home dock is customizable also, you can put any app there. plus the bigger screen is great. touchwiz takes up less ram than sense so the phone will definitely be alot smoother and faster. I see alot of people on the amaze forum complaining about their battery life also. And I tend to keep my 4g off by using "Android assistant" unless I'm surfing the Web or anything else that requires mobile connection.

Appreciate the feedback! Actually my co worker had the Samsung Galaxy S - not the II with 4g - my mistake. Can the Galaxy S 4g make it all day if using for phone calls lasting 2hours? Would it last longer than the Samsung Galaxy S?

Well there is the Samsung galaxy s, galaxy s 4g and the new one with the 4.5 inch screen the galaxy s 2. the galaxy s2 is 1.5ghz dual core processor phone. watch some reviews on YouTube but make sure you type in t mobile galaxy s2 cause there is also a internation version which has a button in the middle of 2 capacitive buttons. The t mobile version has 4 capacitive buttons. It should last you all day. Specially if you turn off your 4g when you don't need internet connection so apps running in the background don't eat up your data. I have 5gb of data a month and apps that run in the background like google maps and others will eat it up quick.

The galaxy s2 also comes with 16g of memory which could be upgraded to 32 with another 16g sd card.

I switched over to the Amaze after using a BB 9700 for a couple years. Compared to the BB, battery life is abysmal. After the software update, I noticed that battery life did improve when the phone wasn't doing much, e.g., overnight while the screen was off, good wifi / cell signal and the phone just polling for e-mails mainly. When you actually start using the phone, however, the battery drains very rapidly. There is no wifi calling until T-Mobile releases the software patch to enable it again (don't know when that will happen). That said, I really like this phone and don't regret switching over. I've gradually come to accept the fact that I need to plug this thing in every chance I get and I'm willing to get another battery if needed. The only thing I really miss about the BB is its ability to charge via the charging contacts near the bottom corners of the phone. Drop the phone into the cradle and it charged without having to fuss with USB cables. Really wish the Amaze could do this given how frequently it needs to be charged.

Oh yea almost forgot the gs2 has a bigger battery compared to the amaze. And the super amoled screen wastes less battery life. I keep my screen at 23% at all times and I can see everything clear even in direct sunlight.

Thanks for all the feedback - very helpful! I went to T-Mobile Store yesterday (The Loop, Fl) to test one out but none were working (all dead from non charging) and the Amaze not even on display. Every single sales person had the new SG 2 in their pocket and raved about it - three reps warned me to stay away from the Amaze as it could not compare to the Samsung. One guy said he only got 4-5 hours of battery on the SG2 and another said about 8 hours - none could tell me much about how they worked and knew little about the features - only that the screen was large and bright - duh. Now I'm wondering if I should hold out for the new Galaxy Nexus and switch to Verizon. Thanks again for all the feedback.

Well with every smart phone I have had I turn the 4g off unless I need a internet connection cause I noticed that's the main reasons batteries die quick. And yea I had the same experience at my t mobile store they didn't say besides it has a big screen and way faster than the amaze which is not a lie.. but the amaze is also a 1.5ghz dual core processor. About the galaxy nexus..well its not all that its 1.2ghz dual core processor but it has a few bugs so it needs a couple updates. And Samsung confirmed that the galaxy s2 will receive the ics(android 4.0) update, and when it does it will be way better than the galaxy nexus with ice cream sandwhich

The GSII and the Amaze have the same specs, 1.5 dual core yadda yadda yadda.

When I took the GSII back and told them it stunk, one of the reps got mad and went in the back room and stayed there.

I stand by my review, if you've never used a Nexus for any length of time, you might be ok with the GSII.

But the Samsung Touchwiz user interface made me want to stick a fork in my eyes, yes its that bad.
You cant delete the preset bookmarks in the browser, ridiculous

And the backplate is literally paper thin.
The phone is cheap and cheesy .

I'm very happy with the HTC Amaze.

Lol the amaze doesn't run as smooth as the gs2. And the gs2 feels great its thin and light weight.

I've had both phones and the GSII absolutely does not run any smoother than the Amaze, its basically the same specs on both phones except the display, and I actually like the Amaze display better.

The camera on the Amaze takes much better pics than the GSIII.
I mean its not even close in picture quality, Amaze kills GSII.

I have had almost every high end Android phone T-Mobile has offered, and the Amaze is the
first phone to even come close in picture quality to the Nexus One (which took absolutely stunning pictures) , and we know what company made the Nexus One dont we.

As far as thin and lightweight..... I'd say its cheap and plastic-y .

Like I said before the GSII back plate is literally paper thin, cheesy and cheap as I've ever seen.

Samsung has sold a ton of them so I guess I'm probably in the minority with my opinion.

I'm waiting on another HTC Nexus. Or maybe a Motorola Nexus ?

I just did that exact thing. I switched from a BB Bold 9780 to the Amaze and I am never looking back!

I have had damn near every Blackberry in the last 15 years, starting with the 7100 iden and have loved Blackberry up until I bought the 9780 and 2 months later OS 7 was rolling out, unable to update "officially".

I have been using the Amaze for only 24 hours and am loving it. Not just because its a new shiny device but within 10 minutes I had every app installed on it that was on my Blackberry and they performed better. The speed doesnt even compare and the switching to touch screen isnt really that bad.

You will dislike the battery life and the way the contacts are laid out and you will miss the ease of BBM, but other than that the email and other options are not that much different... just better. DO IT!

I was tettering between the Galaxy S II and the Amaze and they clerk in the store helped me out. The convienence buttons on the Amaze for camera and video are nice (none on the Galaxy) and the speed of the camera shutter is slow on the Galaxy. Plus I think its a little bigger and I didnt want to jump to gargantuan from the Bold.
