Can the bixby button do something else?

I'm planning on buying either the S8 or S8+ when they come out but being able to use the bixby button for something other than bixby is extremely important to me.

Does anyone know if it can be reprogrammed to do something else? Like mute/unmute, take a photo, open an app, anything other than bixby since I have zero interest in controlling the phone with my voice or using these routine "cards" or any of that stuff.

I hope so. It seems useless, maybe map it to the camera with root or something. But good luck rooting because it's stupid

I have no plans of rooting it, don't really need that for anything, but that button... I cant understand how no one who has reviewed the phone has mentioned anything about it so far.

I'm pretty sure I saw a quick review on YouTube where you double press the " Bixby " button and the camera will pops up.

My understanding is that most functions operate by just saying hello Bixby. The button is in case you want to show it something with your camera and then get information on it.

First thing I'll do is turn off everything related to Bixby as I'm not interested in that at all, but I dont want to buy a phone with 4 hard buttons and have no use at all for 1 of them :/

I'm pretty sure that's the power button with the double press to launch the camera. Unless the Bixby button can be mapped to do the same.

Either way, hopefully that whole feature can be turned off. No interest in it here!

I'd really doubt if you can launch the camera or remap the Bixby button. They want you to use it and not have the option to turn it off.

There was a way to disable S Voice wasn't there? I'd assume they've got to offer a way to at least suppress Bixby.

Yes, but they added a special hardware button for Bixby and put a lot of time and effort into it. Not so for S-voice.

**** on Bixby. Plus they put that hard button opposite the power button. I was so happy when they finally lowered the power button instead of it being directly across from the volume rocker. Smh

I'm sure it can be disabled, then you just have an extra button to not press.

I'd go out on a limb and say that anyone with Package Disabler Pro will probably be able to disable Bixby.

Package Disabler Pro works without root - I currently have all of the Edge screen stuff disabled on my S7 Edge without root.

Bixby button can be remapped with "all in one gestures" from the App Store! It also can be completely disabled.

There is a video on YouTube that shows google now (not assistant) replacing Bixby. Plenty good enough for me!
