Can the Optimus V be used in England?

My wife and I are going to England soon and was wondering what the best option for cell phones would be. Is the Optimus V capable of being used somehow in Europe? If not, what phones are?

Wifi should be able to. International plan phones will work.

GSM phones. Which would be any unlocked phone any at&t phones they use a sim card, t mobile is iffy they use different frequencies.

They only have different frequencies for 3g. Edge should be fine

I only want a cell phone to make calls (it's only two weeks). We will have wi-fi at the house we are staying. So, what I gather is the Optimus V will not be able to do that. I will be looking for the cheapest way to go since I will only be making a few calls to the US and to each other. I only use up about 60 minutes a month here in the US.

If you don't mind being tied to the wifi to make and receive your calls, I'd install Skype and go that route. I'm an English ex-pat now living in the US and I use a cheap PAYG phone when I'm back over there. But that makes more sense for me as I'm there once a year or so.

I don't think there's any way to get your phone to join a network there, or at least, mine didn't when I was last in the UK.

Groove IP, nettalk, any voip app will let you talk over wifi

Thanks. I know this sounds crazy but I never used Skype. I will download it and try it. I still might try to find some cheap four-band phone if I can get one.
