Can the Xoom Brightness Dial go to 11?

Love the xoom, that's not the issue. And under most circumstances, the screen brightness is not an issue at all. And yes I understand that upping the brightness would lower battery life (but the battery on this is already insanely great).

I want a brighter screen for one thing only...attempting to read Ebooks outside. I've gotten hooked on the Kindle app, and I love reading Ebooks. But it is a pain outdoors in the sun. The reflection and all. I'm thinking if they brightness were cranked up higher than maybe it wouldn't reflect as much (the white page would come come through instead).

Is there an app that will allow me to go beyond the "normal" brightness settings? Would rooting allow this (I rooted my EVO, but not my Xoom...yet)? I've considered an anti-reflective screen guard, but I'd like to avoid those if possible. I've used screen guards in the past, and I'd like to avoid having to apply another big sticky sheet and fight the dust (but if that is the ONLY recommendation, then I might have to settle).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

you can get a matte screen protector i use one and i can see the screen pretty good in sunlight even without it being at full brightness

Also was it the "dry apply" or the "wet apply"? I've only really done the Zagg ones which are wet.

dry is there is no liquid to apply u just stick it on. I bought and it helps with finger prints by 85% that is my only reason for buying one

The brightness on the Xoom is a problem outdoors. When I tested one out, I couldn't read the screen outdoors in the *shade* which is a bit of a problem. However, I don't expect any backlit tablet to really be readable for long periods in direct sun.

I was hoping the 3.2 update would include the ability to turn the screen brightness up higher--but I haven't heard anyone mention that who has received the update.
