I was using my Nexus 6P and all of a sudden it just froze. Wondering if this can be fixed somehow.

That is the bootloader. If you click the volume buttons it will scroll through your list of options, and clicking the power button selects the choice. Right now you are on the option to start your Android. Does it boot when you click the start button?

Nothing happens. I've tried all options to no avail. Even had a buddy of mine try to root it. Nothing. Could it be a defective motherboard?

No need for root, but you could try re-flashing the OS. Yes, this will result in loss of any data that may be on the device and not backed up.

Nothing works.
Perhaps you don't know the answer but 'nothing works' doesn't give us much to go on.
- will the phone boot into Recovery mode?
- if you attempt to wipe the system cache or perform a Factory Reset do they appear to be successful or is some error shown?
- were any errors shown when trying to reflash the firmware?

These might be useful things to know; or you could just sell it on eBay for parts.
