Can this phone be used as a WiFi only device?

I will be upgrading soon (no idea what I'm getting next). I usually give my old phones to my children to be used as WiFi only devices. When you start the Rezound with no Sim it tells you a Sim card is required. Will I be able to get past this?

That is a good question. I don't know the answer. I look forward though to an answer from someone who might know.

I am pretty sure the stock Rezound will do nothing but complain without a SIM installed, you might be able to bypass it by pressing Emergency Call, then Home, it worked on older ROMs but I remember somewhere that on the stock ICS that doesn't work anymore. Your easiest bet might be to unlock and flash in CyanogenMod or other AOSP ROM, bypassing the SIM stuff should be much simpler.

I do plan on rooting and playing with ROMs soon, just to see what is out there and what I should have been doing with my phone a while ago.

Yes, I've been using mine - wifi only. I have a sim card installed but currently not activated on Verizon. However I have not tried making calls on Google Voice or any other voice/video apps.
