I am stuck with a samsung fascinate galaxy s1 and want to know if I call verizon customer service can they upgrade me 4 months early without edge.

Welcome to Android Central! You can always ask them nicely, but I wouldn't be too optimistic. I had Verizon for about 8 years, and they flatly refused to upgrade me early last year. I had a Razr Maxx, and was anticipating being able to upgrade to a new phone last October, which would have been the required 18 months. But before October arrived, Verizon abruptly changed their upgrade policy to 24 months, without any grandfathering. I spoke to several reps as well as a main supervisor, reminding them that I was a longtime customer, but no luck. That, along with the persistently mediocre service where I live in the Silicon Valley, finally led me to move to T-Mobile earlier this year.

Probably not, but doesn't hurt to call.

The reason I ask is that I read a lot of stories where people were able to upgrade pretty early through verizon customer service.

Can Verizon upgrade you early. Yes they can.

Will the upgrade you early? You won't know until you ask. It will depend on who you talk to and if you can convince them. I would just ask. The worst they would do is say no.

I have a friend that works at Verizon. Go into a store, tell them you lost your phone and if they don't upgrade you that you're leaving for tmobile or sprint. They can and will, just be respectful but stern.

No need to lie about losing a phone.... Threatening to leave Verizon don't always work... they have too many customers to care... (at least not right now) They talk with hundreds of customers each day and they have heard all the BS excuses people come up with. :)

However, being upfront about wanting to upgrade and a clean billing history will usually get a nice VZW supervisor to do early upgrades. (if not, just keep calling back until you talk to a nice one) :)

I was able to upgrade two lines about 5 months early last year after calling customer service and complaining about losing the early upgrade feature Verizon previously offered to loyal customers. I did have to request a supervisor since the call taker flat out refused.

As others have said. It is possible if you call, but there is no guarantee.

I think it depends on who you talk to, or what rules VZW has going on at the time. I was told by a couple VZW reps that you can early upgrade 6 months early on a 2 years plan. I've done it, but was charged an early upgrade fee of $20~$30 dollars. It's been some time since I've done it, so I don't know if VZW still allows it.

I called a couple times and was told to buy early edge, but yesterday I called and he said that I could early upgrade, but I asked if they could change my date and he ended up saying he has to email a higher department. He said he would call me back and said it would definitely be approved and gave me his cell number but it was fake. So there went my only chance at an upgrade. Guess I'll try again.

I'm 5 months out from an upgrade and was told no. He said he could do it, but he wouldn't.

Hope you had good luck! Verizon is pushing to have people change to EDGE plan in these cases. New contract, got your business locked in.

If that was my only choice, I think I would consider just paying the full price for a replacement without the new contract. I don't change phones much so if I am going to end up paying full price I would avoid the contract.

I preordered full price. I already pay enough and Edge would have brought my bill up higher than I wanted.

At the end of your contract [two years], don't forget to apply for the line discount for off contract phones. [same as EDGE discount]. You might have to find a knowledgeable staff member since it just started earlier this year.

So in February I get a line discount? How much?

If you tell them your willing to sign an edge agreement, they may let you upgrade with 4 months left. . Otherwise I doubt it, they're pretty strict about 24 months.

If your are on the more everything plan and out if contract you will get $25 discount per line of you have 10gb of data or more. If you have less then that the discount is now $15 per line.

If your account is in good standing AND a store manager is willing, you can upgrade 2 months early without edge. Anything more than that and they will not. I have 5 smartphones on my plan. I pay almost $400/mo and I have never missed a payment. That is the only reason they are letting me do it 2 months before, and they will stick to the day.

So my upgrade is Dec 20, they will not do anything before oct 20.
