Can we ever expect to get custom roms on Xperia Z1s?

I love this phone, but it would be even better if we could load up custom roms.

I've done searching, but I have had no luck and development for this phone seems like it doesn't exist, which is a shame because this phone is great.

Is it because of the locked bootloader?

It's unlikely that there will be custom ROMs unless someone figures out how to unlock the bootloader

At this point, I'd be pretty happy with just root

And sadly that's why I would have to pass on this device for the g2 even though I like sony's software better. But I want to know I can unlock the boot loader and root if I want to.

Just go to the Z1 forums. Its the same phone.

Personally I have my Nexus 7 for my flashing need. As far as phones go I stop flashing ROMs a long time ago and I no longer buy phones because of its development community. And in reality I don't keep phones long enough for to really matter.

Well after doing more research it seems as if all you need is root on the z1 and you can flash custom Roms( stock based). Which is fine by me while I love aosp based Roms years of bugs or trade offs burned me out with them. Now let's hope this gets root and I'll get this phone.
