Can we read NFC tags to change settings in our phones?

Is it possible to load an NFC tag with one or more commands that change a phone's settings? An example would be to turn audio OFF when entering a meeting room.

- What tool would I need to write to a tag?
- Can "any old tag" be used for this, or does it require a Motorola tag?
- Is there a list of commands that can be handled via NFC tag?

You'll want to look at NFC Task Launcher in the Google Play store. Any old NFC tag will work, and good prices can be found on Amazon. If you use Llama for other things, it will also do things based on an NFC tag. but NFC Task Launcher is what I would recommend.

Yes you can.
I have a few tags set up currently.
One on my keychain toggles BT and WiFi. (I don't need BT in my house or WiFi in my car. Tapping my phone there toggles them perfectly whether I'm going out or returning home)
One at work in my locker silences my phone and turns off BT.
The other in my locker at work puts my volumes all the way up and turns on BT.

Now, I just need to mod the NFC app to poll all the time, including screen off and locked, so I don't have to take my phone out and unlock it every time I want to use a tag... It kind of defeats the purpose.

WiFi in the car is useful when using navigation or any location related app. It uses nearby hotspots to give you a more accurate location.
