Can we use Google Cast on Samsung Tizen TV?

Samsung released new SUHD smart TVs powered by Tizen if I remember correctly. Can we use Google Cast on it? I mean - can we stream, for example Netflix or latest Google Photos, via wifi to this TV without buying a Chromecast?

You can if the TV supports Screen Mirroring (which most Samsung TV's do, but not sure if you'd need a Samsung phone for it to work though). However, bear in mind that it would be SCREEN MIRRORING. Your phone's screen will need to be on all the time, and you're basically showing what's on your phone onto the screen, nothing like Chromecast (where the load of streaming is left to the dongle).

For things like Netflix, however, you might be better off just using the TV's native app.

I've got a SUHD and no there is no Chromecast built in. Like Spook says you can mirror phone content to the TV but it is smart enough that it doesn't leave the phone screen on.

Sony TV's have Android now don't they? Maybe they'll have Chromecast function?

Even the new CC dongle can't do 4k though so you would be better using the TV apps for Netflix etc, though local mirroring is fine for photos.

You made me think though and I just tried sending a uhd from Tab S to the tv by WiFi and it plays well. 2560 x 1600. Thanks

If you're mirroring the screen (menus, taps, movements, etc.), they do keep the screen on, don't they? If you're 'streaming' media (local video/pictures/audio) then yeah, you can turn the screen off, but that's a different protocol to Screen Mirroring.

Chromecast will not be 'bundled' with any TV's (Android TV has similar features, but it's still a different beast).

Yes you're right, when you press the connect button you get three options: Play/View content, Screen mirroring, Control TV.

I think Sony Bravia tv does support Google Cast so I guess that means it would appear in the options from the cast button?

Noticed something interesting, the TV does show up in the cast button choices on YouTube on the tablet and using it does stream to the tv direct, and not just mirrored, as I started a video and switched off the tablet and it continued. It's not available in the iPlayer cast button tho. Why one and not the other? The only difference from using CC is that you need to click 'play' on the remote to start it once the screen loads.

Another way to get content to tv is using the built in browser, playing streaming video full screen. I haven't tested this out a lot yet but it looks like it's working OK. A 1440 video looks good but I'm getting a bit of buffering but shouldn't be as the Internet speed is fast. HD no problem.

YouTube (and a few other apps) that have native TV apps will show up there. It shows up in the same 'Casting' icon, but in reality it's not the same as Chromecast, it's just using the native TV app to stream the content and your phone/tablet as a remote. Same idea, different inner workings. But yeah, that's why you see it on YouTube and not on iPlayer. And even if you do have TV app, not all apps allow it (depends on the dev).
