Can you bypass SIM Lock by Installing a custom ROM?

Someone is/was selling their locked Galaxy S5 and I was wondering if I bought it could I unlock it by Installing a custom ROM?

If you do that of course installing a custom rom will unlock it your installing a whole new firmware of course is gonna completely wipe the phone to insure a smooth install of the new rom
