So I go into the android calendar to setup an appointment. The default reminder is a notification (just a popup on my phone). I have to click on the reminder each time and change it to Email. Is there a way I can change the default option to email instead?

To change the default notification type you have to log in online. It can't be changed from the Calendar app.
Then in Calendar go to:
Setup (gear upper right) > click on the Calendars tab (upper left) > click on Edit notifications (right side).
Under Event notifications and All-day event notifications, click on the By default, notify via drop-downs and choose Email.
Then under Choose how you would like to be kept up to date, at the far right, check Email boxes as desired.
Click on Save and you're done.

You can use the Google Calendar app from the Play Store to add email notifications.

^^^ That works fine for new events or changing notifications on existing ones. But to change the default notifications to email as requested you have to set it online.

Android since v1.0. Linux since 2001

Yes.

Go to settings
Tap the calendar
Default notification
Custom
Email

All events saved to that calendar should be sent via email

That changes the default notifications to email for all events? Are you sure? I thought it set email notification for that event only. If that really does change the default, well...ya learn something every day...

Yes.

If you change the default notification to email in the calendar settings, all events you add to that calendar will default to email.

??? But in that screenshot, you're only in the editor for a single event. You're not in the app settings. How does that change the overall default for all events? I can't find a place in the app settings to make email notifications the default for all.

I am also looking for a way to set/change the DEFAULT notification method in Google Calendar's android app. I tried setting the default on the web site (as outlined above) but that does NOT seem to have any effect on the android app -- at least on my phone. There is still no default notification of ANY kind. I have to add it manually. I would like to set it up so that, by default, I get a pop-up notification 10 minutes before any event, without having to ask for it. I want it to just be there when I create an event on my Google Calendar android app. Is that possible??
