Can you use Easy Tether without getting "caught"?

Verizon told me I have to pay to use my Rezound as a hotspot. Does "Easy Tether" let you do it without having to pay their ridiculous fee? I'd like to be able to use my unlimited data. I mean, really use it.

I think they know whether you are using mhs, my opinion is, if you use it a little, then fine, if you use it a lot, pay the extra $30 or $24 per mo for 4G hotspot.

In this instance, Big Red is also Big Brother. I don't think there's any way to work around it w/ out forking over a few $$$.

What is "mhs"?

It would be more on the use a little side. Recreational, one might say. But if there's no advantage to Easy Tether over the built in hotspot... doesn't matter.

Over on the Nexus forums, one of the users discovered an app that let's you use your phone as a hotspot/tether. He stated that the phone didn't need to be rooted in order for it work.
The developer of the app even chimed in and said he hasn't heard of anyone at all being charged by carriers for using the app, so it seems legit.
However, the app costs like $3, but it has a free 2 day trial. Might be worth checking out.

I can say that a buddy of mine has been using a tethering app on his non-rooted RAZR, he's used 14+ GB this cycle (he and I are both on grandfathered unlimited data plans ) and Verizon hasn't said a thing. Heck, even checking his connection speeds via the speedtest.net app it doesn't even look like Big Red has throttled his data usage.

After reading the developer notes for several of the tethering apps, if you DON'T use the "built-in" hotspot switch in the Settings Menu, things are usually OK. It seems like there is no way to run wireless (WiFi) tethering without rooting your phone.

The USB-based apps all work unrooted. Most of them will show they are incompatible with your VZW devices. However, there is one that actually has a second version with a different title that does show as compatible. The developer only mentions on his website why the second version is there. If you look at the name, it will make sense what he added to his old name.

There is also Proxoid, which is an open source project that reveals the most likely way that all of the other apps work. It uses a modified version of the debugging bridge from the Android SDK to send your computers IP traffic through a "virtual network card" over your USB cable, to your phone, and back.
Alas, Proxoid seems to be slowly dwindling away, with no updates in quite some time.

the full version of PDA net works perfectly for me. I don't know if their hide tether feature is doing anything though or just there for show, I'm sure Verizon can find out that we are using tether either way.

Yes I have a razor from Verizon unlimited Internet and been on the paid 9.99 easytether for over a year and use it for my lab top to stream movies and ran thru 17 gb easy a month. The only problem I'm having is not able to use with apple mini table, I'm taken the apple back and get a android tablet, also they told me they have a device for around $100 and you plug it up to any ones cable tv device and get there cable channels free. And the $100 is a one time fee ,no monthly fee, the person cable box you have it hooked to just can't power off ther box. Oh the phone not rooted ether
