Can you use the Samsung Gear S2 classic to make NFC payments?

I have a Samsung S7 Edge that I use to make NFC payments but my watch is unable to make a NFC payment even though it's connected to my phone via Bluetooth.
The NFC on the S2 classic is enabled and the error message is along the lines of "no payment found"
