Canceling and reinstating google fi?

I got my google fi invite waiting in my inbox.
I am on the fence about actually using it.

I have an upcoming international trip so I figure it would be the perfect time to test the intl data roaming features. I currently have a GV number and don't want to lose it.

1. If I switch to Fi and decide to switch back, does that mean I will no longer be able to use Fi again in the future or would need to reapply for an invite?

2. If I switch to Fi and use my GV number, I read that I lose access to the GV app. I haven't switched to Hangouts because I have years of saved txt in my GV app/web interface that I don't want to lose and apparently have no way to transfer to hangouts. If I do this switch, but then cancel Fi and move my number back to GV, do I lose my txting history?

I will say that I asked generally your same #1 question on the Fi Support chat that I have 2 Gmail Accts, my main #1 and not used to much #2. Both have GV #'s, but my main one I am on the fence about porting just yet, until I try out Fi first.
So, I asked the support chat rep if I signed up with Gmail #2 acct/GV, give it a try for a couple months, and then like Fi, can I cancel Fi, then re-sign up under Gmail #1 acct/GV? She said I could, however, it could take up to 90 days for Fi to "release" my name/home address on the first Fi account. It may take a couple days, or could take max 90 days.

Hope this helps in some way. I wasn't comfortable porting over my main Gmail #1 acct/GV as I use this all the time and had my GV# for years and just IN CASE, I did sign up and cancel Fi, I didn't want to risk them not being able to port it back to GV. I know people say it can be done with no issues, but seems there's always a possibility something can go wrong.

So, hypothetically, could I join Project Fi, get the 6P on the 24 month financing, then drop Fi and use the phone on Verizon, my current provider? (Of course still paying the 24 month phone charges), or is that a default in the eyes of Google?

I would like to know the same thing.

My understanding is, if you get the financing, you must pay off the phone before you cancel your Project Fi service.

Thinking I'll try a chat session today to find out but I suspect you're right. I'll post what they say.
