Cannot Turn Mobile Data On

Something new (for me) has popped up. When I first got my OP3, the mobile data would turn off and on whenever I was out of my home WiFi range. I have limited data, so didn't want that to happen. I turned it off in settings/cellular network settings/mobile data.

Now I find I can't turn it back on! I go to the same section, tap the slider on the right, it lights up, but data never turns on. I have searched and searched for the answer online, and came up with various APN settings, but none work. I called Consumer Cellular, but after 45 minutes on hold, I gave up for today.

I can make phone calls, download whatever I want, send texts, receive texts, everything else, BUT I cannot send pictures because the mobile data is not turned on. If I even add an emoji to my text, it won't go through.

Can someone help me? I will also try Consumer Cellular again tomorrow.
Thanks!

Hello there.

Here are the APN settings for Consumer Cellular. But I am not sure how much they would help. As APN settings would not prevent you form turning on the Data slider itself, it would still turn on, you just may not get data due to the settings.
Consumer Cellular APN Settings – Step by Step Configuration

Have you tried making sure WIFI is off when turning on your data?

IT WORKED! Thank you, thank you!

I had spent several hours Monday fooling with this, and trying all sorts of "Consumer Cellular APN" settings I found online, but none made any difference. I had tried turning off WiFi before I tried to turn on data, but that didn't seem to make any difference. This time, when I turned WiFi off, the data turned on immediately and my text/pic was sent.

I just turned WiFi off again manually, and mobile data didn't turn on automatically. This was the problem that occurred the first time I was out of WiFi range, data turned on -- I don't want that to happen, since I have very limited data with Consumer Cellular. Did it turn on automatically because I was trying to sent a picture text? I hope that's the way it will work!

When I had my Galaxy S5, and would send a text message with a picture, the Wi-Fi would turn off and data would turn on automatically, just long enough to send the text, then it would switch back. I guess this is what I was expecting from the OP3. Is there an app that will do that, and NOT turn on the data just because I'm out of WiFi range???

Sorry for all the questions! You've been a big help!

Jo Anne

I tried sending another text/pic without turning WiFi off or data on, and it went just fine! That makes me think it was the new APN settings, but I'm just happy it's working!

Thanks again!

As far as I know there is only one APN setting to be sure you can Google it as I did or call 1+3 support if you are 100% sure of those settings I would switch card slots and see if that works. Good luck 🍀
