Here is what I would like to accomplish:
1. Open up the standard Contacts app that comes with the Android OS.
2. Place my cursor in the "Search Contacts" field.
3. Press the Microphone icon/button to enable GBoard's Voice Typing.
4. Say the name of a contact I want to find in my very long contact list, in order to narrow the list down to potential matches.
What the issue is:
Despite having the most recent version of the Android OS installed and the most recent version of the GBoard app installed, the Microphone icon/button does not appear when the input cursor is in the "Search Contacts" field of the standard Android Contacts app.
Here is a screen grab of the SMS app on my phone. Notice that with the cursor in the "To:" field, that the GBoard displays the microphone button. After pressing that mic button, I can just simply say the name of a contact who I want to send an SMS message and then select the specific phone number to send to.

I'm new to both the Android OS and to GBoard. This means that I just synced all of my contacts from other personal information management software/online accounts and I need to review and ensure critical contacts made it okay. This means I'm spending a lot of time in the Contacts app. I'd like to avoid fat-finger-scrolling through 450+ Contacts which is: quite cumbersome, not ergonomic, very inefficient, and a huge time waster.
I did various Google searches to try to find an answer to this question, to no avail. IMO, it seems like a terrible oversight that GBoard does not seem to enable the Voice Typing mic button from within all text-input fields no matter where they are in the Android OS or apps. But I wanted to be sure there wasn't some setting that I've missed.
