I receive an error message saying "cannot zoom in this mode" whenever I try to zoom in when taking a normal picture. This happens whether I'm in auto, beauty face or panorama. I cannot find a setting that controls this. I've had the phone for about two months and could swear this had not been a problem initially. I can't relate the problem to anything I've set on the phone. . a Spring Galaxy S5

Help!

This only happens when using the front facing camera for me. It's a limitation implemented by Samsung.

I had this also and discovered by accident that zoom will NOT work if you have your phone set in easy mode (fewer icons on home scren). Put it back in regular mode and the zoom will work! Hope this helps :)

I have the Samsung 5 and Verizon. The only way I know how to zoom is by pinching the screen. Hope this helps

You can "zoom" a photo after its taken by opening it in the gallery, open the function drop down menu, select edit, select tools (the wrench icon on the left on the editing screen) then select resize. You can pick preset resize options or manually zoom in or out. This gives the same result as "zoom" when taking the photo because, unlike a camera with a zoom lens that optically magnifies the subject of a photo like a telescope, the cell phone camera simply uses digital "zoom". This works by enlarging the pixels (picture elements), making part of the image up to 4 X larger on the screen resulting in the image appearing less sharp. Having 16 million pixels to work with, the camera in the S5 actually does quite a good job of it.

the camera of my samsung galaxy s5 has no zooming. it only says "camera zoom is not allowed in this mode" even if i change the mode, it still doesn't work. i read in one of the discussions here that the mode should be set at regular from easy. my phone doesn't have that mode (easy or regular). it doesn't even have a settings button on the camera app. any help or suggestion will be most welcome.

I FIGURED IT OUT!!! So, I have an S6. I clicked camera and there are dots at the bottom. Stroll right, until you get to the first dotted page. If this is happening, you have it on Selective focus. I selected Auto. NOW YOU CAN ZOOM!!! Problem solved! I have a major secret music event to go to and I desperately needed my zoom. Feel free to like or thank me here. Glad I could help you all. ;) :D
