Can't access 5Ghz networks

I have a Galaxy S5 and Asus RT-AC56R. Was having the same problem with my S5 not using the 5GHz band. I use MAC address filtering and also like to hide my SSID once the profile is saved on my phone. For some reason my S5 thinks the 5GHz band is turned off when my SSID is hidden. Shouldn't be a problem once the profile is saved on my phone. Worked like that on my old router and works on the 2.4GHz band. Anyway, my S5 is using 5GHz just fine with the SSID visible.

That's odd. I've got my Netgear R6200 router's 5GHz AP hidden. Moto X remembers and connects okay. But I don't have MAC filtering enabled.

Was this resolved? Having issues loading page on my phone currently..

No help from XDA or even from Motorola team yet. Perhaps someone can give an advice here before I conclude that phone is defective

Take the plunge on a decent AC router dual band and you'll never have to worry about it. They do sooooo much and mine has 2 USB 3.0 ports to easily share hard drives I my LAN or wan, remote in to setup or do it at home. My own FTP access you name it. They're getting much cheaper too. My ASUS 1900 so.ething or other was 129.00 on sale and SCREAMS and has multi cross and support and every feature I'd ever want. Sell the old stuff to help pay for it and be done with all the issues. I did and it was the best thing I've done for my houses internet needs ever. No hiccups. Multiple peeps on at once with no lag, great distance and firmware upgradeable if course. With 4 Ethernet Jack's and I hooked a Linksys extender to it from my kitchen far away and get wifi in the front and backyard now too. Best thing I can tell ya. I was fed up too and bit the bullet. Wished I'd done it a year ago but they were 100.00 more then too give or take. Good luck with either decision.

The 5Ghz band already could be set to a higher MHz than your phone can handle too., Set it to auto. Usually it's 20,40 or 80 MHz or auto. My phone supports 80 but my wife's tablet doesn't so I keep mine on 20,40 or 80 so she can access 5Ghz too but auto works also. You might set the 5Ghz wifi channel to auto also instead of 138, 165 etc if it's not already set to auto as well.

hi guys i came up with a solution and its working on all Android phones those cant detect 5ghz wifi .just put your phone on airplane mode then turn on your wifi im positive that you will see your beloved 5ghz wifi ssid and able to connect with it .hope to find some fix with sim on

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone had any luck with this issue? I have a Moto Z Force and I can't connect to my 5GHZ WiFi at all, and neither can my wife on her GS7. This is a recent issue, as we were always able to connect. I have a host of other devices connected without a problem, so it's not the router. I've tried playing with a bunch of settings on both of our phones, but nothing. Anything? Anyone? Bueller?
