Can't change "new message" tone

Using the native messaging app on Samsung S7. No matter where I try to change the message tone, in the actual app or in global app settings, it doesn't "stick" and just reverts to the previous sound. I can select and hear new tones, but there doesn't seem to be any way to save them.

Hmm, got mine to work ... Settings / Sounds and vibration / Notification sounds / Messages notifications ... using default Samsung messaging app
