Is anyone else in the Atlanta area having trouble connecting to the 4G network? I've turned it on and all it says is "scanning". It never actually connects.

sure you have coverage where you are? 4g has trouble going into buildings, so if you're inside move to a window or soemthing. if not then try rebooting

wont have mine till later today so cant confirm if its atlantas network yet

I was outside when I tried. I did a demo of the Clear 4G service (which is what Sprint 4G is running on in Atlanta) a few months back and had no problems getting a good signal in my office.

I'm not getting 4G indicator in Norcross, GA either where the coverage maps says I should be covered. I'm inside building, but haven't tried outside yet.

Well, just as I submitted that last post. I looked at the EVO and I see 4G now, but with only 3 bars.

I've had spotty coverage driving around the north part of Atlanta. I lost connection to 4G a few times while driving from Alpharetta to top of the perimeter on 400. At my office I have strong signal outside, but very spotty indoors.

Yeah, my 4G is fluctuating between 2 and 4 bars alot. Also, it will switch to 3G for a few seconds then back to 4G too.

I guess that's the big downside to Wimax is that it doesn't penetrate as well as a LTE signal.

I went outside and tried it again and it worked. I guess the 4G radio in the Evo isn't strong enough to get the signal in my office.

The 4G radio in my EVO gets a better signal than my clear card. The clear card gets no signal in my office, but at least the EVO gets 1 bar.

For people in a 4G coverage area that are getting the looping notification message "4G! is available" but aren't able to obtain an IP address I believe there's a solution for the problem.

From the home screen go into the Evo's settings and select "Wireless & Networks" uncheck the "Mobile Network: Use Phone for data connection When 4G is unavailable" checkbox.

Make sure the "4G" check box above is enabled.

Your Evo 4G should then reset the data connection and successfully connect to the 4G network. Afterwards go ahead and recheck the "Mobile Network" check box.

That'll allow you to disconnect from the 4G service and enable 3G data if you lose signal or travel out of area.

If this helped you, spread the word and hit Thanks.

You're welcome.

The 4G event may not be until be September 29th, but dozens of 4G towers are already working in Mass.

The Sensorly app lets users map 3G and 4G service while they drive. So far, users have mapped 4G coverage in 150 cities including towers in: Boston, Brookline, Farmingham, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lowell, Medford, Salem, Weymouth.

The app has street level maps. Until a market is officially announced, towers are in testing and may be turned off at times.
