Cant decide between iPhone or Thunderbolt

I returned my tbolt last week and walked out with an iphone. I really liked the tbolt but it has its issues. I have an x, d2g and now an iphone. Im gonna use it for a bit and see how it goes. So far its light, small, reliable(no random reboots, lags, great battery) very well built device. Bad on navigation, apple really needs to work on their nav apps. The bolt was zippy, nice customization, big screen, sounded great and was really hard to put down. My experience with tbolt flaws were outweighed however. Random reboots, heavy(like carrying a rock), one day id get 16 hrs battery the next would be 4, looked cheaply made to me. I had light leaks and the plastics just felt like poorly made. I hated the back battery cover and wasn't thrilled about the button placements and ports. Above all the phone was android so can't go too wrong there. My sittuation was that I didn't want to keep it for the price I paid. Tried to take it back but since I bought it online i had to mail it in which would leave me out of my early upgrade. I already had an x which is the next best thing in Verizon line up so I walked out with the iphone. Just my 2 cents and opinions here but id hold out if I could do it again. I have another line up for an upgrade soon so im not really worried about it. The iphone's not a bad buy and resale value seems to be pretty high. Good luck with your new device whichever you choose!

I have both, the iPhone 4 is still the better phone simply put, the only thing that the HTC has better to offer is the LTE technology (which might not be a benefit to you cause of your area) and that for tech geeks its a fun phone to modify etc (you kind of can still do this with an iphone if you jailbreak it but android feels a little more fun to customize), the iPhone all around navigates SOOO much smoother than the thunderbolt does that its not even funny sometimes when i navigate through the thunderbolt i feel like im navigating through a iphone 3G well maybe not that bad but deffinably not anywhere near to the iphone 4. if i only had one choice the iphone 4 would take my pick any day. luckily im fortunate to claim both of these great phones. Simply put if you feel like you want to go in your phone and disect it modify it and you dont run a business off it go with the TB and if you want a smart phones thats nearly flawless at stock OS go with the iphone 4.

also you wont really have to worry about battery life on an iPhone 4 on the TB you definably will, now heres another hint beware of verizon store reps there are EXTREMELY biased and will try to sell you out of an iphone 4 and into android phones do to commissions and biased oppinions etc..

OMG YES the button placement on the TB is terrible why they put the charging connection where the kickstand would hold up the device is beyond my imagination and why the volume rocker is so friggin huge and easily hit accidentially also pisses me off. aside from that the phone didnt feel too cheap for me in my case but definably not luxurious as an iphone 4.

How is the iPhones scheduling/calendars. One of the reasons I am getting a smart phone is because I have a very very busy schedule and need something with me at all time to make sure I dont miss certain events and appointments. Also any idea how much the iPhone 5 will be upon release?

It was between the iphone 4 & tb. I went with the tb for the following reasons: 4G, the iPhone 4 is soon to be replaced with 5, I could get more than just Manu warranty with the tb & I could get a 1 yr contract with the tb. While the battery life has been a challenge with the tb it is workable & I have no regrets with my choice. I am very happy. Love the tb.

My upgrade for Verizon is on Thursday and Im trying to decide between the iPhone and the HTC Thunderbolt. I have pros and cons for each and cant really decide what to get.

iPhone:
Pros- Reliable, more apps, simpler (could be a con too), smaller, better screen
Cons- iPhone 5 coming this summer, I feel like getting the iPhone 4 would be useless if an upgrade will be coming in the next couple months

Thunderbolt:
Pros- Most apps are free, customizable
Cons- Terrible Battery, Thicker, I've heard it will be really out of date in a few months

I also hate how everyone has a huge boner for apple :/

which phone should i get I cant decide :(

Well I just wouldn't touch a handset without 4G capability now. If you really want an IPhone wait until June when the new 4G IPhone is introduced.

I was dead set on getting an iPhone. I was of the camp of thought that once iPhone came to Verizon, it would be nice knowing Android. But, I think ATT did Android the biggest favor in the world when they touted the shortcoming of the Verizon iPhone. A simple flaw that the new upcoming Android did not possess with its new network capablity. ATT promoted the fact that a Verizon iPhone can't do simultaneous voice and data like an iPhone on ATT can. Well, guess what can on Verizon? A HTC Thunderbolt!

ATT wasn't done helping Android survive the iPhone invasion of Android's turf on Verizon. They came out next with the fact that their network is faster than Verizon's 3G network. But is it faster than a Thunderbolt? No!

For me, I choose the Thunderbolt because I could have:

  • Simultaneous Voice & Data
  • Fast Network Speed (5-12 mbs)
  • View TV shows on network websites via flash
  • Have blank home screens to display my wallpaper
  • Widgets
  • Notifications with a color LED
  • customizable display without root / jailbreak
  • No requirement to use a computer to manage phone
  • Free tethering until May 15
All of those reasons are not available on the Verizon iPhone today. Now, the iPhone 5 may have a lot of those features, funny thing is I can't find a blog that supports @AndroidXTC's suggestion that the new iPhone in June will have LTE. Most of the key tech blogs believe that a LTE iPhone won't come before 2012 at the earliest. Without LTE, you won't get simultaneous Voice and Data or super fast speeds.

In the end, you have to decide what it is best for you. For me, the Thunderbolt just made more sense for how I want to use my phone.

The only reason I'd get an iPhone is if I was somehow in a situation where I could not charge my phone every 16 to 20 hours but thankfully I live somewhere that has plentiful power outlets.
For me android does everything better and more than ios. And jailbreaking an iPhone is not comparable to rooting an android.

For me android/thunderbolt is the perfect option. But many others are better off with an iPhone. I sure wouldnt advise some of my less tech wise/valley girl friends that an android is better for them. different strokes for different folks...

Get a TB and a tablet.

I have an iPad for Skype, Netflix, and all the other crap that I wouldn't want to use on a phone anyhow.

TB = fast phone, email, and 4G data.

The UI on the iPhone 4 is the same as it was on the original. EVERYTHING is icon driven. No widgets.

Want to check your stocks? Press the stock icon.

What to check the weather? Press the weather icon.

What to see your most recent messages? email? Press the appropriate icon.

Its not like Apple is not familiar with the concept. i.e. Dashboard in OSX.

Thats why I like Android. The flexible UI and customization. And this is coming from an unabashed iFan boy who owns a Macbook Air and iMac.

Let me put this into perspective for you, coming from a reviewers point of view.

The iPhone is basically an iPod Touch with the phone added on. The only thing you look at constantly is rows and rows of apps, absolutely no customization options available, but the UI is very very smooth. Apples products all have the SAME exact OS which means for all touchscreen devices you get practically the same experience. If you own and iPod Touch you own an iPhone

The Thunderbolt is driven by Android 2.2 froyo with HTC's custom Sense UI overtop of it. The experience you get from Sense UI is about the best of all custom UI's manufacturer's put on android phones. Android allows you to customize your home screens to your liking making it your very own. Unlike the iPhone you can have widgets, livewallpapers, custom clocks, skins, etc. The possibilities are endless. Overall the experience you get from android is alot better than iOS.

I honestly think iOS is very boring, theres only so much you can do with it. Now the hardware on both phones is top notch, I didn't complain about either of the phones when I had them in my possession.

The phone I use as my personal phone is the Thunderbolt because it caters to my every need. I read news, check weather, text, surf the web, etc and it's all right there for easy access on my home screen, I never have to open an app. unless I browse the web and it's much faster on Android.

Coming from iphone 4, I LOVE my Thunderbolt since day one and haven't missed the iphone 4 one single bit. Blows away the iphone in every aspect than I can't do with it but I can on the Thunderbolt.
Battery problems? It's non-existent to me since I got a 11000mah battery for my Thunderbolt (and future tablet). Hehe

A warning, any phone you buy will be outdated in 6 months, just like any computer u buy. Just pick one when u want a new phone.

Regarding the battery, it's really not *that* bad, as long as you follow some of the simple guidelines you can find here and other sites.

After the first few days of "conditioning" and very heavy use, my battery has settled in quite nicely, and pretty much always gives me at least a full day's charge.

I'm not saying it's fantastic, but before I bought the phone and was reading reviews, the battery life comments were the one thing that really had me on the edge of buying vs. not buying...but from my experience the battery life is definitely better than I expected based on the reviews I was reading.

It's all personal preference really. If you want to be stuck with 1 boring UI, have to pay out the nose for applications, have to use iTunes then go with the iPhone. If you like having a choice on applications and how YOUR homescreen is setup go to android. The only thing I'm envious of iPhone users is the hardware support i.e. speaker docks and what not. I have no idea why docks with a single micro usb port haven't been made yet, or at the very least more bluetooth docks.
