Can't detect new update (S5)

I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S5 sim-free and put my old simcard in it, it is currently loaded with Android 4.4.2, and I'd like to update to the new version Lollipop 5.0.0.

However when going on Settings>about phone>Updates It simply states that there are no new updates.

Will I recieve the update in due course or am I doomed to live in my backwards state of 4.4.2-ness?

I'm in the UK btw if that makes any difference.

The carrier that sold the phone will update it if it's still on an active account with them. Otherwise you'll have to bring it to your current carrier and ask them to update it for you, or you'll have to find an update file for the particular model S5 on XDA Forums and do it yourself.

Thanks Rukbat.

OK so to reitterate this simcard/contract was originally purchased with a Samsung Galaxy S3, now ive swapped handsets by buying it from elsewhere, if I contact my provider and let them know they will enable the update for me?

Also, are there any disadvantages or restrictions (or even advantages?) when installing yourself? Is it difficult to do?

All help is really appreciated :)
