Hi, I'm new to the forum, I just picked up my note 8 a couple days ago, I get spam calls a LOT, I'm a caretaker with odd hours so when I had my note 2 I had blocking mode on and whitelisted the people I was caring for along with friends and doctors, but left out certain contacts and everyone else. But when going to my contacts, I see no option in my contacts list to get a red circle for the contact I want to favorite, or a star, like is mentioned in the tutorials online. Press hold selecting the contact just gives a green circle with a checkmark that goes away after I leave the window. Does anyone know what is going on? I really need to setup customized do not disturb to take care of relatives and get proper sleep without being spam called on a multiple times a day. I have ATT. if that matters.
Thanks

Not sure about the Att version, I have the unlocked model and sometimes carriers make changes in the software. But on mine, if I open the Contacts app, then tap on a contact, it reveals a pop out with call - message - details options. If I then tap on details, it opens the contact and up at the top where the image of the contact would be displayed there is a Star, which when tapped, sets the contact as a Favorite. As for the call blocking, in the phone's general Settings under Sounds and Vibration there is a sub menu for Do not Disturb. Opening that option allows you to set custom exceptions where you have several options for calls, messages, events/task, reminders and priority notifications.

I have Verizon, and I just press the star to the right of a contact name to put the person in favorites. You need to press "details" first. Then I set my Do Not Disturb to only allow my favorites.

Ok, I found the solution and the root of the issue and it's pretty stupid. If you create your contact to be linked or saved to the SIM card like most people and not to the phone itself, there is a completely different menu form when you add phone numbers, etc, with the sim card contact creation menu, you can only add one phone number for a contact. And it won't give you the screen with the star to make that contact a favorite, only creating a contact saved/linked to the phone can you get the screen with the favorite star, and a more detailed form with mobile home and work entries, a groups option and a scan business card option, creating a contact on the sim only gives Name, phone and email entries, did I get a gimped sim card or something? Also once you create the contact you can't edit to to be linked to another storage medium, ie you can't take a sim card contact switch it to be linked to the phone or the opposite. Has anyone else had this issue?

I've always linked my contacts to my Google account. This way I'll have them on all my devices.
