can't get out of safe mode

i have a htc 10 which is on the current update and when i woke up it was in download mode and so i rebooted it and ever since it has been in safe mode. i have tried to restart it i tried to power it down then power it back up and i even tried to go on the download mode and try and reboot it from there but nothing is working

Back up all your data, then unlock the bootloader and use fastboot to reflash the firmware. (Then restore what you backed up.)

(I don't know if the HTC flash has the same thing as the Pixel 2 [it's made by HTC], but if there's a .bat or .sh file you'll be using [depending on operating system], and the last 'fastboot' line has "fastboot -w ...", just delete the -w and run it. -w is "wipe" and that last line is user data, so removing the -w means that it won't wipe your data. I've flashed the updated version of the firmware every month, except for one [which I did OTA] and never lost a thing.)
