How weird. It's a Samsung watch, which does allow untethered use of Samsung pay - but apparently, you can't use this feature unless you are synced with a Samsung phone.

Am I wrong?

From Samsung.com :
11Samsung Pay is not available on iOS smartphones. After initial setup, Samsung Pay on Galaxy Watch can make at least five transactions without reconnecting to a network. Samsung Pay on Galaxy Watch requires network connection through LTE or Wi-Fi or via Bluetooth pairing with compatible smartphone. Samsung Pay on the Galaxy Watch is only compatible with select cards, carriers, and Samsung devices and non-Samsung Android phones. Samsung Pay on the Galaxy Watch is compatible only with NFC-type payment terminals.

When will it be available?

I don't want to use it on my phone. I want to pay using my watch. I have the LTE watch and it is connected to my account on T Mobile. I also pair it with my iOS phone, and EVERYTHING works just as planned. Except Samsung Pay.

Samsung hasn't indicated a date in any of the press releases or information that I have seen. With that said you can contact Samsung support, they might be able to answer your query.

Also, in case you might not know, this site is dedicated to Android devices and their accessories. You are welcome ask your question here but you can also try our sister site, Imore.com,perhaps they might have some more insight on using Samsung pay with an apple device.
