Can't hide icons after KitKat update

My Sprint G4 updated to KitKat (4.4.2) yesterday without any apparent problems. However, I can't find a way to hide unused program icons any longer. There are some programs you cannot remove (such as Samsung Calendar), but I use Google Calendar. I would prefer to simply make the other calendar icon disappear.

Is this capability no longer present, or is it now hidden in some other menu I haven't found?

Yah, I can't seem to find the ability to hide icons anymore either.

I know someone is going to suggest using a different launcher. I may have to do that, but I shouldn't have to!

Same issue here, I'm not able to hide the apps I'm not using anymore since the latest Android update to 4.4.2

I'm also wondering if they moved this'hide/unhide' option to somewhere else or if they completely deleted it.

I've seen apps that will allow you to hide unwanted apps, but your system has to be rooted. I don't have a rooted system.

It's there, just press the menu key while looking at all the apps.

There's a way to do it. Create a folder named 1111 or aaaa, or something that will put it on the first page of the app tray. Then, in the menu, hit edit. Drag and drop all of the un-needed apps from the first page into the folder. When you're done, tap on the folder, and then the folder name. Edit the name of the folder so it will get moved to page 2. For example, if the last app on page 1 is gmail, change the folder name to hhhhh. Then just keep going until you get to the last page. If you rename the folder zzzzz, it will stay at the end of the app tray, not bothering you a bit.
