Android Central Question

I have a Trio AXS 4G tablet running android 4.2.2. I created an MP4 video on my PC and it runs perfectly. I copied it to the tablet's SD card. I have tries 6 different video players and all I get is "can't play this video" or just a black screen. I copied it back to my PC and it again plays perfectly using VLC. I have played copied DVDs on the tablet and it works fine except that I have to watch 1 VOB file at a time. No app that I load on the tablet seems to be able to play MP4s. Any ideas regarding what I'm doing wrong?

Welcome to Android Central! Is the file on an SD card or Internal Storage? If the former, then see if it plays on Internal Storage (or try a different SD card).

Thank you B. Diddy. I started off with the file on the sd card. I tried your suggestion and copied it to internal storage. Sadly..no joy. It was a good suggestion though. I have high confidence in the sd card. I have several PCs and the file (while still on the SD card using card reader attached via USB) plays perfectly on Win XP or Win 7 using the PC version of VLC. I'm at a loss on this one.

You can never be too sure about an SD card, so I would still suggest testing out another one.

Also, what program are you using to create the mp4 file?

You're absolutely right. I'll look around. I know I have some other SD cards somewhere. I used something called Freemake and tried again using a program called Handbrake. I just noticed that Handbrake has presets for "Android Tablet". I didn't use that setting before. I think I'm going to try Handbrake again with the recommended preset this time. The big mystery to me is that the MP4 plays perfectly streaming off of the SD card when attached to my PC via a card reader and USB cable using VLC to play it. Just won't play on my tablet. Mysterious!

B. Diddy, Just a followup. Problem fixed. I ended up using "Handbrake" to convert the VOB files to MP4. This time I used the presets included in the program for Android tablet. MP4 now plays perfectly on my tablet. It seems that it helps to bounce problems off of someone more knowledgeable than myself. Problem solved. Thanks bunches.
