Can't Port ATT # to Sprint, only to Nextel? Whauu??

Anyone have this issue? I had checked with Sprint (at their store) and with Best Buy to make sure they could port my number and said it was no problem. I pre-ordered the Epic and went to pick it up and they said they can't! They said my number CAN be ported to the Nextel network but NOT Sprint. Anyone ever have this problem? I've gone through about 5 levels of customer service without any help and opened a trouble ticket.

Does anyone know of a workaround? I thought that maybe if i could it ported to nextel then they would be able to get it to Sprint but they said they still wouldnt be able to. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!!

I had no problem porting my number from AT&T to Sprint. The port to Sprint finished about 3 hours after I left the store.

They said it was an issue with my specific number and not having CDMA coverage where the first 6 digits of my number are located. But they do have Nextel coverage.

It depends on the market you live in. They need to have an exchange (I believe) in that market (which I'm assuming they don't). I know not all number scan be ported to any carrier. There are cases (like this) where you can't port to a specific carrier. With the growth of the networks this is rare but it does happen.

Just get a google voice number then it doesn't matter what carrier you use. Its free easy and h as many benefits.

@IIJBII - yeah, i guess i just find it weird that nextel and sprint are still not more integrated (network wise). seems like if it is valid for nextel, then sprint should be able to get the handoff.

@dante501 - i have a GV#. still waiting for the promised ability to port into GV but I've been waiting for that for years.
