Can't read screen out doors, any solutions

Just got my Desire on Monday. Was outside today, it took a lot to see the screen. Is there anything that can help this, privacy screen coating help? Another problem is the reception is not as good as my BB tour was. Have a few more weeks before I make up my mind to keep it or try something else.
