Can't Recover a Nandroid Backup

I updated to CM7.1 RC2 this morning after doing a nandroid backup using Clockwork. The CM7 update went fine. But I couldn't get bluetooth to pair using CM 7.1, so I decided to restore CM7.03 backup from earlier in the AM. The restore started, but when restoring data, I saw it was repeating (very very fast) a series of files that end in .txt. Finally, it stopped, but the screen didn't look like what I usually get when I restore. It appears the process was aborted. I started the phone and it was the base CM 7.03, with no data. Tried to restore a backup from 4 days ago, and the same exact thing happened, except I did get some of the apps installed but a slew of FC rendered the installation unusable. Any ideas why the restore would get stuck with .txt files?

Did you try doing a full wipe and then install your backup?

Yep. Full wipe.

I had mikfroyo 4.4 with clockwork and also had problems with my restores, I did like three full wipes and cache wipes untill it worked, then recently had to restore again!...this time it didnt work....had to start from scratch and now have mikfroyo 4.6 & using amon RA....i heard from other this is a better recovery.

I also prefer Amon_RA over Clockworkmod. Never had any issues with it. But all the backups you have now won't work with Amon. FYI
