I get pixs via email. I use them to put a face to my contacts. I sent two pixs to myself today and I long press but can't seem to get the pics to show up anywhere on my phone. Gallery doesn't show them. There is a -2 next to the gmail icon on the top left of my phone, what does that mean?

when I long press all I get is "share" or "share all". The Save and Save As are greyed out. Any help is appreciated.

I can't tell you why it's happening, but I can tell you how to get around it.
Go to the play store and download "download all files".

Why not just save the pics to the number in GMail on your pc. Also, make sure that the pics that you mail to yourself have the .jpg, .jpeg, or .png extension otherwise they won't be displayed in the gallery. Use the file manager to look in your download folder and see if they even saved. Also, are you using the email app or the GMail app to save the pics?

Thanks guys. I just went into Kies Air and added the photos. I don't know why it's not working with the email (gmail) pics I sent myself. What do you mean by "download all" from the google store?

No disrespect to pool_shark and his suggestion but I don't recommend installing that app simply because the GMail app will already download just about every file type you could possibly run across. Back in the dark ages of Android that wasn't the case though. It would just introduce duplicate functionality.

The op said the option to download is grayed out.

Thanks, just downloaded this app. Lite on instructions but my gmail app doesn't have a "preview" button. Is there another button or setting to checkout? Does this app automatically know when I have my gmail open?

Do you see the paperclip in the email or the 3 vertical dots?
I have both. If I tap the paperclip I get the options to download or open with an app.
If I tap the 3 dots I get the options to preview, save, or download again.

I'm curious, the pics that you're emailing to yourself, are you doing so from a GMail account? I just emailed myself a few pictures using GMail. I added some as attachments and others I placed inline in the message body. All of the pics arrive as thumbnails in the body of the message on my Note II. There is no download button. You have to click on the pic which expands it and then you press the menu button which offers to save it. I also looked through some emails I got this week with pics from AOL/Yahoo users and all pics come inline in the message body also.

Paperclip just opens up the email. No options to download or open with an app. The three dots just say replay all and forward. I have the Galaxy Note 2 phone and the latest (not 4.2) os. Oh, it's a verizon phone. I understand that different carriers take things out.

I send them via gmail to my Note 2 phone. I pick them up with the gmail app on my Note 2. They do come inline. When I click on the pix it does expand. When I click the menu button, the save and save all are ghosted. That may mean the pixs are already saved somewhere on my phone? This is really weird.

The GMail app is the same across all the carries. I think I see your problem. It seems that you have another app set to open pictures instead of gallery. I note that you said "Paperclip". I assume you mean Paper Arist? You need to clear the defaults so that your Gallery is the default for opening pictures. As I wrote in my previous reply, to save a picture you have to touch it. A small preview on a black background will appear along with a progress bar. The full picture will appear afterwards at which point you have to press the menu button which will offer to save the picture.

Ok. I tried this with my native email app on my GN2. Well this email app seems to do the trick. I sent a photo from my desktop gmail email app to my GN2. It got there and on the native email app I had options galore. I could save it by tapping on the picture or using the menu. It automatically saved the pix in my gallery under downloads. I would like to get rid of one of the cavera folders from my Gallery though. Haven't figured out how to move the pixs from one to the other camera folder.

Cut and paste will do the trick for moving the pictures. Samsung has a series of YouTube videos that demonstrates a lot of the features. I'm not sure which one specifically addresses photo folders but give all of them a look because there is lots of good info.

The paperclip and 3 dots I'm referring to should be there after opening the email.
It sounds like you're trying to do it from the email list.

The menu dots don't appear with photos in the Gmail app which is what the OP said they are trying to download. That's why I asked if they were using the Gmail app or the native Android email app. If he's getting 3 dots with photos it's probably because the the photos have no extension, which happens a lot when MMS' are forwarded as emails, and thus the phone has no clue what to do with them. Using a download helper won't solve the issue since they still wouldn't appear in the gallery. Sounds like the OP has found a fix they're happy with so I raise a toast to you and say good job!

I am using the gmail app that came with the phone. The three dots I see when I click on my email that has the pix. I can't select the three dots by themselves. The pixs are all saves as jpeg files with extensions. My screen looks exactly like the one above. However when I click on the pix I don't see anything that asked me to save unless I click the menu button on the phone and then the save and save as are ghosted. Thanks for all your help. I'll try to dig a bit deeper or reset my phone again.

The 3 buttons are for replying and forwarding.

Touch the picture you want to save and you should see this with a blue progress bar.

After a few moments you should see a full-sized picture like this.

Now, hit the menu button and you should see this. And yes, it is grayish white.

After choosing Save or Save all, your pictures should show up in your gallery.

I wasn't aware that different attachments appeared differently in gmail. That was the only email with attachments I had, so I incorrectly assumed that an attachment is an attachment.

I also assumed there was a different type of extension on the pics the OP was trying to download since save/download is greyed, which is why I suggested download all files which doesn't care about extensions.
