Can't Select UI Language = English. It always auto-switches to German

I am an American living in Germany. I just bought an LG GT540 Android phone (v1.6). I prefer English language software and user interfaces.

When I select "English(United States)" under Settings / Locale & text / Select locale, it will automatically switch back to German after a while (I'm not sure what this "while" is; perhaps when it goes into sleep mode?).

Is there a way to make the language stay English?

Very interesting... maybe goto the carrier where you bought it? I would assume the GPS or network is having something to do with it constantly switching back.
