Hi, I just bought a new AT&T HTC ONE M8, have been using a Samsung Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile for years.

When I inserted my T-Mobile SIM into the phone, it says Network Lock Enter PIN. Ok no problem I just need to buy a network unlock code from somewhere on eBay.

However I went to two different merchants on eBay for the unlock code and I see in their descriptions that if my HTC ONE M8 has Android 4.4.2 on it the unlock code would NOT work. I just checked the software version and it is indeed 4.4.2. So there is no easy way to unlock the phone? :'(

Nope. You'll need to contact AT&T for the Unlock Code. It should be free, but the device has to meet certain requirements, mainly, that it's paid off or no longer on contract. A simple call to AT&T (assuming it meets their unlock requirements) will get you that code.

Thanks, I put a request into AT&T and will see what happens.

I bought the phone from eBay as NEW, and it came with new box and everything sealed in plastic.

I know it's on AT&T network so I had to unlock the SIM, I have unlock other phones before my wife had a HTC ONE S which also was bought via eBay and to unlock it was simply to pay for an unlock code with the IMEI number. I had no idea that Android 4.4.2 cannot be unlocked. I am wondering if I get a code from AT&T I might have the same issue. What is so special about 4.4.2?

I am not so tech savy I read some threads here some had to root the phone and did a bunch of stuff and I couldn't really follow the talk.

It says it's an AT&T phone. The phone's SIM tray comes with an AT&T SIM card (unactivated).I have gone to AT&T's web site and requested an unlock code and waiting on a reply.

I have purchased new phones via eBay that's network locked before. I simply used those services that gives you an unlock code based on your phone's IMEI number. But I did not know that Android 4.4.2 these codes do not work and that is the version of Android this phone is on.

The unlock code merchant says my best bet may be to buy a temp AT&T plan for 1 month, then activate it on AT&T, then do the system update on that phone, then use the unlock code once the Android version changes.
