Can't UNroot

@ androgk can you give me some details about the error that you get from ruu and what kind of os is on your pc?

**I second that lj is a very cool and helpful guy.

No no, I'm just barely scratching the surface, its breezy here doing all of the hard behind the scenes work. I'm just the debug unit!

Trays exactly what I did, breezy pulled the zip from the ruu, and I tried to manually flash it like a custom Rom. In the first few post there is video of some one successfully unrooting
Using the ruu method. But no other cases.

Tried using "RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253"

"Error (155): unknown error
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your android phone.

Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again."

Funny thing is, it DOES detect my phone and ROM version 1.32.651.6 and tried to flash to 1.32.651.1, then it fails.

Thanks i passed something along to lj to test hopefully it works. If it does we'll get it posted here for ya,if not then ill keep plugging away at it.The process is a little slow right now cause i don't have a evo so everything has to be tested for me.

Do you have a custom recovery? Can you wipe the phone then try the RUU? - Just in case though make sure you have something to flash from on your SD card.

[Update] Method 2. Use an corrected zip file. Result- Fail : Phone seems like it installs the file, upon restart, white evo 4g screen with no boot.

[Update 2] Method 3. Use the RUU. Result - Fail : I had sync on my pc, yet the phone would not connect though sync. I went a head and uninstall ed sync. re-installed syc from the evo. Still no beans, and when i ran the RUU i got a connection error right off the bat. Then i installed the sync from the link on page 1, and still no connection through sync. However i ran the RUU, and it detected that i had a different rom the on evo, and it went a few steps farther before promoting me with a usb connection error.

[Update 3] soo close, so, being the stubborn mule that i am. I kept trying, I installed Droid Explorer, quite possibly the most awesome thing i've played with. And kept fiddling with connect to device. I ran the ruu while droid explorer was running, and nada, exited DE (droid explorer) and re ran the RUU, GREAT SUCCESS!!! GOt the black HTC Screen and it seems like its working!!!! not.... got to this screen ( attached tumbnail "sooo close below") , and then the usb connection error.

[Update 4] No freaking way! while in the black HTC screen which was stagnant on my phone, i figured what the hell, run it again. So this is like the 50th time i have run the RUU, my htc sync still doesn't work, i Dont have high expectations.

And behold!!!

I would like to thank Beezy420, and all of our friends over at XDA for providing this RUU, and making this possible. Now to re-root

Awesome! I wonder why it kept getting so hung up. I've read running the RUU w/the Evo stuck is a way to get it through.

When I did mine, I just ran it and it went through.

I had HTC sync installed but not running (just for the dirvers), I had USB debugging on and that was it.

I think I did something bad....I powered up the phone by holding POWER and VOL UP. Then I got the white screen and it asked if I wanted to update P136 or something like that, I selected yes and it ran its process.....Now I have a different boot screen and lost Root, can't use titanium backup and when I tried to get into recovery, I got a black screen with a picture of an EVO and a red triangle with an exclamation point in it....Am I screwed?

did you run the ruu? you cant run titanium cause your unrooted.

and you dont have a recovery immage because the ruu locks it.

You have to re-root.

Running the RUU resets you back to stock and erases all data.

Yes! I am back to stock....now to test Titanium Backup with UnRevoked...crosses fingers....

No need to worry. In toasts root (or was it thebiles) they tell you unrevoke and then d/l titanium backup and then install busybox.

I did it myself and I know for a fact it works.

LJ,

At least we know its possible....

You did what? Can you repeat that :)
Joking of course...

Printing and saving for future (hopefully unneeded) reference.

THX.

the first 2 steps are exactly what i did.

i tried the rom.zip, rename nonsense, didnt work. just keep pushin with the ruu, you'll get it eventually.

And you'll be able to download all official updates this way.
(or wait till they get added to the rooted roms)
