So I bought this phone recently off of someone hoping to upgrade to 6.0 right away because it's still on 5.1.1 but I don't have a sim card in it. It just runs off of WiFi (I use it as a tablet) but it won't let me update no matter what I do. Do I have to have a sim card in it to update?? What can I do to get it to 6.0+? Any help is appreciated

Welcome to Android Central! Is it a carrier-specific phone? If so, you usually have to be on that carrier's network in order to receive an OTA update.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. It's through AT&T.. No work around than huh?

Is marshmallow even worth the upgrade or is there a lot of problems and I should stay on lollipop?

BTW I'm not new to the forums, I've been on here 8+ years lol

D'oh! I'm working with a beta version of a new forum template which doesn't show how many posts you have under your belt, so I think I just forgot to check and assumed you were new!:-\

AT&T is notorious for locking down their firmware and making it very difficult to update unless you're on their network. There might be ways to do it, but it may be different depending on the phone. The forums at xda-developers.com might be a good place to look. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the reply and no worries about not knowing with my account . No big deal!

One more question, Is marshmallow worth it and fully stable with everything on the G3?? Or should I just stay on lollipop?

I'll have to defer that to someone who has actual experience with 6.0 on the G3. Good luck!

I have a At&t lg g3 that wouldn't update to marshmallow either and so finally two weeks ago I rooted it and installed TRWP and nougat 7.1 which I downloaded from XDA... First time I've ever done that... Is possible... just read and also watch the videos on it...
