I get this error every time I try to upload an image using the 'new' manage attachments..
"The Dimension limits for this filetype are 800 x 800. We were unable to resize your file so you will need to do so manually and upload it again. Your file is currently 868 x 1002." I've never had this error with the old image uploader.

I got that earlier this week. Just resized in Paint and uploaded again. It seems like something that should be automatic though.

Yes, but I don't want to resize images manually :'( ... I have have never encountered this error in two years on this site.. Seems like it's linked to that new image uploader....

Yea, it never used to do this to me either, but, now I have to resize them. It's a pain, but, it doesn't take that long in paint, like jean said.

Hey guys -

From a size limitation standpoint, nothing has changes from vB3 to vB4. The settings I show below are a screenshot I grabbed from our old vB3 forums:

You'll notice that all of the maximums are to set to 800x600. If your upload exceeded those maximums, you would have seen an error message.

What's different in vB4 is that they've added an "attachment manager." It allows you to upload images, insert them inline, and then access them again via the attachment manager for future use.

I'm not sure why people are just noticing this all of a sudden (maybe I'm missing somthing?), but I did bump the size and width dimensions up significantly and modified a few settings so that your image isn't re sized to a thumbnail that you can barely see once you've submitted your post.

I've been thinking about adding a box, below the editor, that would allow members to upload directly to TinyPic and have it return a URL that you could paste directly in your post. Would there be any interest in that?

Well, if the size limitation is the same as it used to be, it must just be a fluke on my end. I have only had the issue post update, so, was thinking it was related, but, must be a coincidence.

If it would upload and resize manually and allow me to just have to paste a link, that would be nice. But, resizing in paint isn't that much of a hassle either.

You aren't the first ones to complain about this, so I believe it's just the way the attachment manager in vB4 presents itself and the extra features that it provides.

It also seemed to affecting Tapatalk as well.

Still! I have tried to enter the photo contest but could not upload photo! The old forum image uploader never had that problem because it automatically resized the image and didn't expect the image to be a specific size... Can that be brought back??

Attachment Uploads:

It actually did have this problem work this way and is working as designed. Prior to the upgrade, the maximum dimensions of a picture upload was set to 800 x 600 -- to ensure the picture didn't resize the post box and look unruly on smaller phones. I increased the maximum dimensions to 1920 x 1280, based on your original post, with a maximum file size of 1MB. Anything beyond that is unreasonable for a forum post. I see your image is 3624 x 2448 and almost 3MB.

Resizing:

Once you've submitted your post, if the uploaded image exceeds 400 pixels in width, the dimensions of the image are preserved, but the display of the image is resized to 400px, with an option to click on the image to view it full size.

Alternative:

You can also link to an image vs. uploading it to the attachment manager. There are no size restrictions when you use this method. Tinypic is a pretty quick and easy way to do this.

If you still want to use the uploader feature, you will need to edit the dimensions and reduce the file size in a picture editor program. I would suggest saving it as a PNG file vs. JPG.

Thanks that might be the issue then! Forgot how big a file pics are now. I never reached the limit with my last phone so wouldn't have noticed such a limit! Pics from newer phones are now twice the size.
