Can't use stylus with Galaxy Tab A 7.0?

Before I bought my tablet, I asked at the store if I can use a stylus with it. They said yes, but just a regular capacitive stylus (not the fancy S Pen or whatever). so I ordered one on eBay afterwards and when it came, I found that it would not work at all on my A 7.0 tablet. I have an older A 8.0 tablet (that I gave to my dad) and the stylus seems to work just fine on that one. I've been scouring the settings on my new tablet and can't seem to find a fix for it.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestion on this matter. thank you.

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this from the Galaxy Tab 7-inch forum (which is for the very old original Galaxy Tab) to the Tab A forum (even though it says (8 & 9.7, it's still the best place for the Tab A line).

Do you have a screen protector on the tablet?
