Capacitive Keys Too Dark?

I finally took the plunge yesterday. First phone I got, the capacitive keys didn't have haptic feedback, and you couldn't even see them, just a faint bit of light shining through.

The second phone's haptic feedback works, and the keys were a bit brighter. However, you can only see them indoors.

Is this common to all the phones?

Yes, they are not at all bright but since they are always in the same place it doesn't seem like a big deal -- soon enough you learn where they are and don't depend on the visual anyway.

I enjoy the dimmer brightness. You won't notice when you learn where the buttons are. It doesn't make a difference to your memory.

As I've stated else where I especially like the dimmer buttons because I like to read books in darker settings. The buttons on my epic use to blind me and reading before bed was a killer on the eyes with those buttons.

Well, wouldn't it be better if the setting could be adjusted? I don't need them either, but it would be more difficult for others to use if they weren't familiar with it...

If you know where they are why does it matter if they're dim?

I still go with that. But I guess some people have bad memory to action coordination. LoL. I never have an issue.

When I first for it I was use to the epic lay out and was hitting the wrong buttons. After having it this long no issue.

Yes I have to agree with you.. The keys are way to dark and its pretty hard to use the phone in the sunlight.. Any fixes?

I have to admit that when I first picked up this phone, the dim buttons did bother me some. The buttons are better designed on the Evo for visibility under any lighting condition. But after a couple of weeks, I don't notice this much any more as I already got used to the new button placement and like the dim lighting better for nighttime reading.

Like others, I agree the design could be better and a user controlled brightness option would be nice.
