Captivate not sending MMS messages?

Handcent upgraded to 3.2.4. This great app is now working on the Captivate. 3.2.3 was a broken version. If you set MMS sending size to 100K, picture messaging works on the Edge Network. Any other setting does not work.

The original Messaging client shows that the picture is too large and compresses it. But I think it does not compress it to a small enough size to work on Edge. I believe this is an issue with the software itself. If it had an adjustment to outbound MMS size like Handcent has, it would probably work fine on Edge.

Yes, we have a problem

I spent two hours on the phone with AT&T and they tried EVERYTHING. I even went to the store and replaced my sim card. No Dice. They have no clue what the problem is. Just like posted above, with very small messages <100Kb, I can send MMS, everything else just HANGS forever then eventually fails. I installed handcent and changed the MMS max sending size to 100KBs and now it works. Someone call QA and get this shiet fix. Is this a Captivate or Android specific problem??

Mrgoodwords. What do you mean? Use Handcent and that takes care of the MMS problem?

I installed Handcent then in the Handcent settings limited the size of MMS to 100KB's. The app then resizes the pics to meet the <100KB setting and will send the MMS on the Edge network. Unfortunately, a picture <100KB has pretty poor resolution but at least it works. When on 3G, you can change the settings for a bigger size. Of course, this only works for those having problems sending MMS on Edge network and not on 3G.

Does that help? Either way, this is an issue...

Yep, this is a problem with the installed messenger app on the Captivate only if you are in an Edge network. 3G customers are not affected. After using Handcent for a while now. I like it better now anyway. I miss the puzzle piece thing on the lock screen, but its cool when handcent pops up and lets me type a quick reply. I have had some instances where the picture message would still not send though on some photos. Reducing the camera shot to 2M setting seems to have that solved for now. It sucks to live in an Edge area.

I would say irrespective of the issue, I prefer Handcent as well. It has great customization option. It sucks having to send such small pictures to others with multimedia phones. I'm keeping my eye out for a firmware fix

I was using Handcent and noticed that everytime I got an MMS, I would get 2 notification sounds. Like it would double 2 notifications to the stock messaging app and handcent. Is there a way to fix that? If so, I might re-install.

Turn off the notifications in the stock messenger. Start up the old messaging program, hit the menu button, go into settings and turn off the delivery reports, read reports, auto-retrieve, and last but not least notifications, etc. Then go into handcent and make sure those are setup properly. Your phone just has two messaging apps that are auto-retrieving and notifying.

MMS Not Sending -- Fix

Other than the work around of installing Handcent and restricting message sizes to <100kb, I also went into the AT&T store and replaced my SIM card. Now actually, I can send MMS of normal sizes. The employee indicated that my SIM card which was replaced when I bought the phone, was out of date....Hmmmm...well now it works but what a hassle

I too have been having problems with MMS on the EDGE network. I could not send over 50 KB but after some help from a friend and flashing my phone to JH3 I can now send them without a problem so far largest i sent was 450 kb

I'm having issues with my Captivate but I'm running Froyo and I'm rooted so what ever was in 2.1 is still in 2.2. I don't always have issues just sometimes. I'm trying Handcent as I type to see how that works. Resized to 300k instead of 600k and it sent. (3G btw). :D
