Captivate vs. Samsung Focus?

I know they are two completely different OS, but I have narrowed my choices down to these two.

I've read through the Captivate section and I have seen that most here think it isn't likely that the Captivate will get an update any time soon, and I doubt I would end up rooting my phone.

The Focus is, as most of you already know, a WP7 phone. I also saw somewhere else that a user here thinks that after AT&T loses exclusivity to the iPhone it will focus on WP7.

I'm basically looking for a phone that will last me through my two year contract, and I'm looking for one that will be updated occasionally when needed.

What are your thoughts? Tried to be unbiased ;)

Ill try ,,, this is the first year for wp7 so most of your year will be spent in bascially beta live testing, you may get more updates but they def need to work on their OS .... And as far as the captivate's update even if its in 3 months who cares you will get it..... and just cause its not 2.2 doesnt mean it is a boat anchor and when you , update is just an update doesnt mean the phone will stop working, and froyo is not the holy grail of updates, when you get it fireworks wont bust out lol...... just my 2 cents......but either way they both have SAMOLED so

I'm technically inclined, so the Android OS was the draw for me, for the Captivate. I've messed around with Linux in the past, so being able to get in and mess around with what and how the phone does things was important to me.

An important consideration should be what you want the phone for- business, web surfing, other?

Not much advice here, just some things to think about.

I've got a Captivate now, and do love the phone for the most part. being a phone junkie, the only one I've dumped fully anf got rid of was the iPhone.

That being said, I'm also going to buy a Winmo7 phone, just because I've played with them a bunch and like them a lot. I'll also keep my Cappy, and swap back and forth.

Honestly though, if you need to choose, one thing I will say is that Windows is going to see much more support. The licensing and requirements are a lot different, and MS is far more strict. You may be missing some things in the beginning, but when MS says they are going to release something, it gets done.

I think all the updates are pushing direct from MS as well.

I'm torn between the Focus and the HTC. For some reason the SAMOLED on the focus just doesn't look as good as my Cappy, and the HTC SLCD is gorgeous. The phone feels much better as well.

Get the captivate if you want something you can make last the contract period
I cant believe its been nearly 6 months on my captivate it just still feels so new
Customization is amazing and root and custom roms are VERY easy

Wp7 may see more updates but it starts by catching up to android
i would only choose wp7 for a really simple phone that isnt iphone

I thought I'd be getting an AT&T W7 phone (had WinMo 6.1) for months before they were available but when I actually looked at the W7 phones and the Captivate I thought the Captivate seemed easier to navigate. I didn't know anything about Android (except that it existed). After spending about 50 hours researching W7 & Android it was obvious that Android was a far more advanced OS.

I guess it boils down to how you're going to use the phone. I use mine for business and the W7 focus on entertainment wasn't appealing to me. With Android I get better business functionality than W7 currently offers and if I wanted to use my phone for entertainment I think it has more funtionality than W7.

I just felt the W7 phones were inferior to the Captivate in all respects. In fact I think the IPhone & Captivate are really the only two AT&T choices for a state of the art smartphone today.

One other thing, what I said is based on the 2.1 version. As far as I know for my purposes 2.2 will allow my bluetooth earpiece to notify me of an incoming call when I'm on a call, may increase my battery life and will be faster but I don't consider my current stock 2.1 version to be slow. The bluetooth communication is really the only thing I miss having.

Dec 1st I bought a Surround...Dec 11th it crashed and wiped my phone 2 times in 2 hours. I had already read that others had been having similar problems, 2 hours later and a restocking fee later, I had my Captivate. Couldn't be happier!

I ditched the iPhone (after having the iPhone 2G, 3G, 3Gs, and the iPhone 4, got sick of Apple's games with the system etc (restrictive app store, etc)

I really liked Windows phone 7 and what I saw, so I got the Focus, it was/is a great phone, and I really liked WP7, however I left it after two weeks for Android, and the Captivate and have been happier ever since. WP7 is great just not ready for prime time yet.

I just picked up my Captivate this past Black Friday and I did look at the new Win7 vs Captivate. I spoke with people I knew that worked in or managed Phone stores, struck up conversations with people if I saw they had an Android phone or a Win7. (my last phone was a BB Bold 9000)

I'll say it was a matter of personal taste, I felt the Cappy was a little more 'complete overall' with the Android system. I got the feeling the new Win7 phone was going to be to Microsoft what the iPhone is to Apple. Kind of a controlled system where you're more at the mercy of the OS manufacturer if you know what I mean.

Obviously, I selected the Captivate and no regrets!

I upgraded from the HTC Fuze to the Captivate. I had been waiting for the WP7 phones to come out, but after seeing no copy/paste, no multitasking, no user-switchable microsd cards I decided to go with the Captivate.

The Captivate has 16 GB built-in and I added a 32 GB microsd card, so I have ~ 48 GB space for files and media. You cannot do this on the Focus.

I have been able to recreate almost all of the functionality of the Fuze and everything works much more quickly. The only feature that I am waiting for is voice activated dialing over bluetooth. This is in Android 2.2 which his supposed to be coming soon. There are third party apps for this but I have not bothered with them, since the dialer is pretty good even without this feature.
