car dock or desktop dock question

One thing to note about the black car **** and your black phone is that once you start firing up nav and everything else the phone likes to get really hot where it will only let you float the charge or will actually just run off battery and take no charge

So that's why when I got home today my battery was at 50% even though it said it was charging while in the car dock. I ddi notice for the first time that the phone was really hot when I took it out.

I wonder if the vent mount that I ordered will cool it off and keep it charging.

There is a thread about the charging issue. It has to do with USB charging vs AC Charging.

USB charge is slow and many of the car charger use USB mode. You have to find a charger that charges in AC mode.

Do a search in the forums and you will find lots of info. I will see if I can find it later.

I Love the car charger. I also think it is well really well built. I dont think I have seen a car/phone charger that was built better. I have noticed that if you keep it on the car dock screen it does tend to not charge as well either. Dont know why that is.

I am using the car dock and have had the problem with it discharging faster than I can charge. I have tried a few chargers which included the annoying blue Motorola one and they all will not charge the DX if it gets hot. I had a rather low tech idea yesterday where I moved my dock closer to my vent and then diverted some of the air toward my DX and it charged much faster. It actually fully charged it where it had been draining all day. I live in the south so it's really hot right now. I use mine for GPS, listening to streaming radio and podcasts through bluetooth so I put a pretty heavy load on my battery.

I put my car dock in between two very cold A/C vents...and it works fine, does not get hot. Also, charges fine. I bought all my accessories made for the X from the store with the 25% discount...love all of them.

I have the car dock and no issues with it. It does have some shake when im stopped at a light but not much. I have not had it get hot yet or drop in charge while plugged in. As for the home dock I just use Dock Simulator from the market. Its free and the same.

Easy Fix to the loose cradle part of the car dock if you want to take the wiggle out of it.....

The bracket that slides out of the back of the dock that snaps on to the ball you remove that and get some fast setting "gel" type super glue (not the runny kind) and put some strips of glue inside the rails of the square bracket and quickly slide it into the cradle and let it sit and it makes the bracket solid like it should have been in the first place.....at least that's how I would have designed it ( but motorola probably thought the consumer would just pop the cradle off with the phone in tow all in one swift grab easy on easy off).

Well i got the home dock and am a bit disappointed. When i can get the phone in the dock its great. Pics look good, weather is a plus but I can't get pandora to run on it or the fm radio? I was am a bit sensitive to light at night and the dimming is a bit to bright for me. I had to turn the clock away from me to look at it last night and that defeats the purpose. I also have had a bugger of a time getting the phone in the dock the first time I did it it took over 10 mins !!! I just couldn't get the double connectors to line up . I didn't want to force it but it sure felt like I was doing just that. I was also hoping you can dock it with the silicon case on from verizon but it won't work. I will give it a shot tonight other wise I just might return this dock and use the standard charger. I tryed putting the phone in and out of the dock today and it was a pain in the butt each time not loosing up. I came from a blackberry with a drop in charger. I am wondering if sedio or mobi will come out with a drop in desktop charger.

I also miss the BB style chargers. I don't think the X will have one though. The BB had contacts on the sides or back to allow for that style of charging and I do not think the X does.

I think your right. This dock won't work with any case as far as I see.

I got to use my car dock this weekend on the way to lake mojave, let me just say, this phone is definitely the power house it suppose to be. Very impressed with how the dx handles multi taSking. With no delays or a freeze I was navigating through google maps, listening to music and making phone calls and texting, also receiving notifications as far as twitter and emails with no problems, and not a single lag...this phone is fire!!!

quick question about the car dock. is there a way to install it in the a/c vents instead of the windshield?

Yes. Get this for a few bucks from Ebay or Amazon.
Magellan GPS air vent mount.

The cradle that comes with the car dock slides right into it. I have it mounted in my car and it's more solid on the vents that on the windshield.

I have a question about the car dock that I haven't seen addressed here. With the X in te car dock and plugged into the car radio accessory port when a call comes in and you take the call does the caller's voice come through the car speakers? Also does the X's mic pick up your voice?

TIA

@claudiap
Indeed it does. And its very good quality.

YAY! I'm very happy to hear this, no more bluetooth ear bud. This really is good news because I am nearly deaf in one ear so when I use the earbud it is hard to hear anyone talking who isn't on the phone since I put it on the good ear.
