Car Mounts

Not that impressed with the iBolt or TomTom, I am still hoping for a car dock for the S3, that works like the Infuse dock, when you put it in the dock it is inserted into the micro usb, and includes usb aux out. Hopefully it will fit with a small (Diztronic) case as well.

My Droid X car dock set the bar pretty high, I don't want to mess with any cords or connectors every time I get in or out of the car.

Though expensive it is a quality option for those who have cases (like me) because its adjustable, and has several other features, which is why i think i could spend that much
There is no way I'm spending approximately an additional 50% over what I spent on the phone itself for a car dock.

Same here but I can live with the Infuse as s stopgap until Samsung hopefully comes out with a device specifically designed for the S3. The $13 I spent for the Infuse is certainly inexpensive enough...

I bought the Infuse 4g mount to use with my new G3. I like the power, audio and dock modes. I did not care for the clip in style and suction cup mount.

I found ProClips mount for the S3 and a custom bracket for my car. I like the mount as it is a slip in style . I found it annoying to separately plug in the power ( I know minor issue )

So.... I decided to modify the new mount and add the usb connector (the dock electronics) to the ProClips slide in mount.

Side by Side comparison :

That came out awesome. How hard was it to fabricate? Are there any issues with the mount/dock recognizing the phone or does it work just like the infuse car dock did? Thanks

I never had the infuse, the S3 is my first Android phone so I can not tell you if they work the same. It does show an icon in the upper right corner of a steering wheel and under the "ongoing" tab is shows car dock. I have charge my phone and the audio goes to my stereo. super handy.

I personally don't think it was all that hard to fabricate. I just lined things up, drilled a few small holes and bolted it all together. I did have to play with how tight I made the bolts, they would change the angle of the dock. In total I spent less than 30 min building and installing it into my car.

Verizon offers the iBOLT SGS3 Dock in all Corporate stores and online, Set Your Location This is is a "real" Dock, similar to the Motorola ones but with some cool benefits. It starts the car-mode, it turns the home screen icons horizontal and it has integrated aux-out for the audio. It comes with a long 9 ft charging cable that also carries the aux audio signal so it can be plugged into a standard 3.5 mm line in jack in the car stereo. The charging goes into any USB port. It also works with most cases, up to Otterbox Commuter style (it doesn't work with Defender cases though). With this long 9ft cable you can place the mount on the LEFT side of the steering wheel and run the cable down the drivers door and under the carpet/front seat up to the center console or wherever your USB and aux-in port is located. Hope this helps.

Thanks - I bought for $32 after tax from VZW online because I get a discount and AC has it for $45 . I will report back with my impression when it arrives.

Jealous of those of you who can charge their phone while using it with music. I have a ground-loop issue in my car (all Mazda 3's from the 05-08 generation do) so whenever I have an AUX connection and charger connected it sounds like I'm in a tunnel while listening to AM radio.

Have you tried a bluetooth dongle system?

Get one of these: http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Peripheral-PGLI35-3.5mm-Ground-Loop-Isolator-PGLI35-SNI-1-3.5

I can't vouch for the site, so maybe do some shopping for the PGLI35. Amazon's out.

I have not but my car doesn't have a USB hook up, just Aux/3.5mm.

I was going to but I've read about them degrading quality and eliminating the bass in songs which would drive me nuts. It would be my last resort since ferrite cores did nothing but I work from home now so the need isn't as big.

They degrade quality from studio-quality, sure. But it's not like they degrade it further than what you're already at. I worked for a rental car company during that period and I remember how obnoxious the Mazdas could be.

Might be nice if you find yourself planning a several hour drive sometime. I hate trying to find decent stations when I head to NYC. Side note: let's go Mets! :banghead:

I ended up getting the ibolt dock, fits nicely with the commuter, the only issue i seem to have is when opening the camera app, the view is flipped upside down while in landscape view, the gyroscope does not adjust. It adjusts if turn i it into portrait view correctly. Strangely if i snap a pic upside down, it adjusts and gives me the pic right side up. Im curious to know if anyone else with this dock has also run into this problem or if it is isolated to my unit.

I just received my Verizon-branded iBolt. When I plug it in using my current charger the light in the dock turns blue but my phone does not show charging and Car Home Ultra does not start up. I've used my current charger for the S3 as well as my previous Droid X so I don't believe that's the problem. Any ideas?

Seems like a frequent issue. You're probably going to want to return. I am having the same issue. Worked on day one, stopped working on day 2. Also seen another poster with same issue.

Not happy about it.

I called iBolt and they said they would send me a replacement. Great customer service but I'm still not feeling confident even with the replacement.
