found the above helpful list of unneeded apps, and i disabled a few, and carat suggested disabling a few others, namely vpn enterprise services and samsung cloud relay. what are those, can i disable them? also, does disabling services like this void a warranty? i am not rooted nor do i have plans to root. i know that when i'm not using my work network, i have connect via vpn to access my email on my work laptop on any other network. is the android system using vpn for the same thing? if so, i would assume i need it. i don't really know what the vpnservices.apk is doing otherwise...

carat also had some other suggestions that i need help on:

1. kill at&t software update ?
2. kill mtp application ?
3. kill video player (i didn't even use it in the time carat was doing its analysis)?

lastly, can i just disable all of my at&t add-on apps? will that cause any odd side effects?

Well, if you aren't rooted and can disable them without doing so, I don't see how that could possibly void your warranty, ya know?

If you want to know if you are using whatever VPN functionality that provides, you could try killing it, and, use your phone like normal, if you run into problems, then you know you can't.

Strange, I ran Carat for like a week, and, it never told me I had any issues. I didn't even think it was working since I didn't even have one issue. Haha.

What AT&T apps? How do you plan on disabling them?

you are my go-to guy here aren't you, Devinator? i guess i'm going to owe you a beer at some point if i keep this up :P

all i have to do is go to settings-->application manager-->all (apps) and it lists all apps installed. i can disable any of them that i choose. i figure there is nothing wrong with disabling some of these at&t features, since i don't use them (at least to my knowledge). for at&t i see hot spots, messages, navigator, and software update (this is the one causing the carat draining issues, but this is also the only one of the at&t programs that has "disabled" grayed out. all the others i can disable, which i would assume would give the updater nothing to update if they were disabled).

i'm only scared of disabling vpn and then finding out it gives me problems, then not being able to restart it. i disabled the samsung cloud apps and it didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

i had carat installed for about 8 hours and it picked up issues...

Lol. Haha, that sounds great!! Pack in ice and send in the mail please!! I <3 IPAs... just sayin'. :p

Well, try disabling them one at a time if you really want to disable them. If you have no problems, I'd assume you can disable another. And, you might want to make sure that you disable what seems like the least important one, then double check that you have no problems enabling it again.

Yea, I understand, and, don't blame you. That is why I said above to disable the least important one and see if you can enable it again. Just to make sure.

Wow, that's crazy. I guess I just keep my phone in tip top shape... something like that. :p

okay. is that new to disable them for the galaxy s3 or something? if i google disable at&t navigator there are practically no results...

I can't disable on my X2, but, I have disabled some per-installed Apps on my Prime. My X2 is GB and my Prime is ICS. That is the only difference I can think of.

What is AT&T Navigator? Is it like VZ Navigator from Verizon? I think VZ Navigator is like Google's Navigation. I'll use a Google product thanks.

are we the only people on this forum? lol

yeah my TF300 is ICS also, and those are the only two android devices i have ever owned, so i don't know much else.

at&t navigator is different from google navigator--i use google navigator and it is much better. at&t navigator is actually quite annoying and often times will ask you to make it the default maps app even if you already have selected google apps as the default. i'm definitely going to disable it if there are no ill effects.

Lol, must be. Slow day for me here, so, been all over AC.

Wow, yea, that is really annoying. That's what I figured though. I don't use VZ Navigator either. Try disabling it, and, then see if you can get it back and working again. Just to make sure that you can restore anything you might find that you needed. Ya know?
