Carrier IQ present on LG G3

What does Carrier IQ do?

I did a little googling and it sounds like carrier IQ is capable of recording and transmitting everything that happens on the phone, including text messages and keystrokes. I emphasize "capable" because the company line is that they just do what their clients (i.e. AT&T, LG etc) ask. It's mostly a privacy issue.

My personal view is that if you are really concerned about privacy then your best bet is to root your phone and scrub it down. Even then you're still using the carrier's cell towers so there's only so much you can do.

AT&T is usually the big bad wolf with this. Verizon doesnt even use CIQ, not to my knowledge. T-Mobile should have it but be disable-able and Sprint doesnt use it either. Its actually listed as a feature on AT&T's website.....

I found it! I am totally clean now. There is a whole Carrier IQ app called LADDM.apk.

Look at the processes first it's a whole rats nest of carrier IQ. Froze it first to make make sure it was okay and all was well so I deleted it. All gone, good riddance.

So root then:
(For ATT LG G3)

Use Android Tuner
Uncheck all Carrier IQ in Android system and then delete LADDM.apk (Back it up just in case). I also went into System lib and deleted the 2 carrier IQ files in there with Root explorer.

That's great, I may just have to go exchange my active for a white g3. And improvement in battery life?

My battery life has been really good so far, so I would assume it would be same or better with this mod! Do it, the phone is great.

I was getting near 4-4.5 hrs SOT. Does that mimic your findings?

That's about right. GSam says I've been averaging 5h 25m though.
I wonder if I had a bum unit. I got 3hr 46min off of WiFi on mine the last day I had it. With grenify, root, debloat

I have auto brightness set to 50%, also greenify, rooted, debloated. I also use Android Tuner to trim partitions and optimize apps and databases upon boot.

This mod should save some battery since CarrierIQ won't be calling home sending stuff like cell tower, signal strength, and battery strength back to the mothership.

Sprint came out right after Carrier IQ was released and said they would never incorporate it. Part of the reason I stick with them. They are good about privacy.

Honestly I would switch to sprint it's just the signal that I can't get I past

I personally wouldn't choose a carrier on something as small as carrier iq but that is just me. I know how to disable stuff so it isn't to big of a deal.

Interesting to see so many worked up over carrier IQ including myself when Google is amassing so much more data on you and we freely use their services. They will be skynet... just wait and see...

At least Google gives you some form of disabling some of their services. Its not logging keystrokes

The att S5 does not have carrier IQ, is that correct?
It actually does, however asks you on first boot if you agree to data collection. After that the ciq apps say "present but not active" or something like that.
