I wonder what they were thinking. With all of the PR disasters over the years by companies doing much less why would anyone dare to make another rootkit, not notify the user, provide no way to opt out regardless of what data is being collected. This whole fiasco stinks of conspiracy even if none exists.
Shareholders of the carries and oems should be demanding answers and firing anyone who thought this was a good idea. Many lawsuits are going to happen, everyone except the lawyers are going to lose. Losses are going to be passed on to the users.
All could have been avoided if at the bare minimum during activation there was a checkbox that allowed users to opt out.
