I had my droid 2 global unlocked by Verizon using their number so i can use it over seas while deployed. However, it is not able to receive data of any kind. does any one know why this is? is there a way to fix it? I know it may be a Verizon thing. Would I be able to receive data by rooting my phone or using a 3rd party unlock service? what are my options? thanks for the help.

Let me try to clarify this as I'm a bit confused. You have a D2 Global that is ON Verizon, or is it unlocked and no longer on Verizon? If you still have a Verizon contract and are wondering why it's not data roaming then check to make sure data roaming is turned on. Let's start here and work from there.

I have a droid 2. I called verizon to have it unlocked for while I am oversease. Verizon gave me the unlock code and it worked. I now have my phone on a non verizon foreighn carrier and voice works fine. I am not however getting data and my firend who has a different phone is so I know its not coverage.

When verizon unlocks a phone is it for voice only? If so how can I unlock it for data as well?

Go into Settings -> Data Manager and make sure data roaming and data delivery are both checked. Then also go into Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks and make sure it's not set for Home only. Your settings might be different cause I have a regular CDMA only phone. Check to make sure GSM for data is enabled as well.
