Carrier unlocked and not getting good reception

I bought the AT&T 64Gb Silver HTC-One on eBay.
Love it even though I'm sure this is a model with a defective battery.

I carrier unlocked it but it seems like it's not getting the signal it really should be getting. I'm with Bell (CA) and this is a little off topic from the norm I know. I tried searching through heaven and hell for an answer and it seems like the AT&T version doesn't support LTE on different networks? And if so, how do I set the network bandwidth to the proper setting for 3G? I tried the pound star pound star dial pad thingy but I can't tell the difference between any of those settings lol. I don't even know what half of them even are.

I was told by my carrier that I did need to exchange my sim card with one that does support LTE and everything in between but it's still the exact same. My iPhone 4 was getting more stable reception than this and I find that particularly weird.

HPSA+ and 3G is what my network coverage map shows where I'm at but am getting 2 to no bars for signal and even in town I get up to 3 and MAYBE 4 in certain spots. I assume that because the phone is tailored for LTE it's unable to get the benefit signals of lower strengths? Seems weird, but is that a decent theory? lol.

Any help on this is appreciated. I don't expect an exact resolution but any light shed is welcome.

Your service is bad because you are with an mvno. They don't have full access to their parent carriers network only a little over half of it. It has nothing to do with your phone being unlocked or not.

But there should be a way to set your network settings up in your settings. Under wireless and networks maybe, I don't really know as I've only used the one once. However I do know a lot about wireless communication.

Thank you for your response. What exactly does having mvno mean? I'd like to know a little bit more if you are willing. I just quite don't understand why I would have crappy reception still.

Sorry for the slow response, an MVNO is any carrier that contracts part of or all of It's network from a larger carrier (usually one of the big 4). As I stated earlier, they are allowed to use their parent carriers network, but only partially. It's because of this as to why you have a bad signal, MVNO's are notorious for it. Some examples would of MVNO's include Virgin Mobile, Boost, Cricket, etc... Those are just the big ones.

So I'm kind of screwed then huh...

Is there any way to get around that? So I can use my carriers signal strength?

Could you do me a favor and download speedtest.net on your phone. Run it, screenshot the results, and paste them here. That would help me get a clear picture of what's going on.

I did it in a spot where I should have full signal strength. When I get home I will post it. Thank you for helping.

Hmm those speeds aren't that bad, they are bearable for me at least. I get about the same as you and I'm on sprint. That ping on the other hand is atrocious, and is probably what is causing the lagging and the other network related issues with your phone.

Unfortunately, I need to do some further research to be able to help you. As I don't know what exactly to do next myself without having the device. I would suggest in the meantime that you disable any apps that may be going online a lot. Because there are apps that will still use your data, even when your phone is off. To do so got to (settings, manage applications or something similar, click the application, and then click disable).

However there is a program you can install that allows you to whitelist/blacklist applications to keep them from using your Internet. The only problem is that you have to be rooted to do so.

I'll get back you to a little while with a few more suggestions.

Way ahead of you on that one mate. I run greenify and hibernate just about every app lol. Anything else you need to help me tho, I will gladly provide. Except the personal stuff lol. You don't need my credit card number or full name with sin number ;)
