Cell signal quality - ATT

Looking for feedback on signal quality over cell. I am noticing I am losing LTE much faster compared to my other phone and in general worse than other phones I have used. Both phones are on ATT and at times there is a significant difference in signal(db) and many times my Mate 9 is on LTE and the G6 is not. Obviously this also affects battery life on the G6. I have compared this on GSAM and its night and day in terms of signal. Even at home using a Microcell, the Mate 9 is a full 7db better signal vs the G6 when they are both 2 feet from the Microcell.

I'm wondering if I have a bad phone or the Mate 9 is that much better with its antenna/radio.

The screenshots from GSAM are during a time period where both phones were with me while I traveled.

The mate 9 has a ridiculous radio. It's arguably one of the strongest on the market. Even download speeds on it are crazy. I sold mine, which was a mistake, but I haven't found a phone that compares to the Mate 9.

Thanks for the feedback. I am beginning to think that comparing the 2 from a radio perspective may be unfair then.

At home my mate 9 would hover around -95db (don't remember the exact numbers as it's been a while). My G6 sits around -105db. Download speeds on the Mate 9 over LTE would hit 100mbps regularly. Highest I've seen on the G6 is 70ish.

The Mate 9 was just a bit too big for me as a daily driver but man that phone is simply amazing. I constantly think about getting another one.

Haven't noticed anything bad with reception. I think the fair test is to run a speed test.

From what I understand, LTE is not always faster than 4G. LTE does not penetrate building walls etc as well as 4G so you may be better off speed-wise with the 4G even though the Mate 9 shows higher bars

G6 seems equal to my Nexus 6 for radio strength. Don't judge by the bars; you need to check the actual values in the settings. It seems to have equal trouble where my Nexus 6 did with weak AT&T signal.

I didn't go by bars, but by actual db signal values after noticing the G6 wasn't on LTE or had no signal and the mate 9 did. I have found the G6 was 5-10db worse when compared to my mate 9 in the same location.
